Today, I dug up the very first thing I ever wrote towards this vision. Excuse the sloppy handwriting but EVERYTHING about the groups and this house has been soooo intentional. Intentionally open, intentionally non-hierarchical, intentionally FOR people on the street, and coming from a need that also exist within myself, NOT to fix anyone. 🫶🏼 heres a little piece of my heart -Kimberly

Today, we really started the whole grant process. Having full time jobs and a family doesn't leave a lot of time for extra work...but we believe in our vision so much that we will get creative to make it happen. I started, and had a moment..."who am i? I just used a lot of drugs and got lucky..." then I took a deep breath and turned that absolute faith I have in others, towards myself, and started writing. After spending hours working on 3 grants, I found myself thinking...wow I've been waiting for this moment for years 🫶🏼 it's the small, not so glamorous, moments, put together to make something so beautiful ♥️ please stay with us, share or donate when/if you can, this house will be open in 2026 🙏 I just know it.

Our Non-abstinence based recovery groups take some getting used to sometimes. People come in, expecting that like other groups, what we want to hear is that they are abstinent or want to be. Folks quickly find out that it IS truly a safe space to say what's real. To say - "I used less today," "something's gotta give **** is killing me, but **** helps my anxiety," or "I just wanna feel better but I don't want to be completely sober" We fully support folks who desire abstinence, but don't consider that the only version of success. We simply want everyone to feel safe to share honestly and have the support they need to feel good in their body, mind, and life! Having ONLY "Abstinence only" models available, keeps many people stuck in a place they would rather not be. Humans WANT to thrive and be healthy and feel good, but when the only option is undesirable or inaccessible, folks may choose to stay with what's familiar. In Heart House Community groups we celebrate each other for every step of self determined health and wholeness! 🫶🏼 Reach out for up to date groups days/times

Tonight we had one of our groups, our Tuesday 5:30pm group held at Haywood Street Respite. A small group with both familiar/regular, and new faces, where we all got to share whats real, right now, with no expectations or fear of judgement. Something magic happens in this space, when human connection is uninhibited by labels and boxes that disregard the nuance of the human experience. Strangers become friends, and aquaintences become family when we share our struggles and successes in the messy journey of non-conventional recovery. ♥️
The first HTHR group was at Haywood Street in the afternoon, but after 3 years of community evolving and HTHR evolving with it, the Tue/Thur meeting is currently at the temporary Respite location, till construction at the church is complete.

Hi everyone! After launching our fundraiser, I realize that just because we've been busy doing this work, doesn't mean anybody knows what we've been doing! So time for a little introduction!

I (Kim/Foxy) I am a person who has used drugs off and on my whole life. I am also a person who has had different periods of time of complete abstinence and other forms of recovery. I've spent the last seven years heavily involved with Harm Reduction and homeless services working everywhere from Syringe Service Programs in three different counties, a housing organization, and a medical Respite as the lead Peer Support that helped the Respite move from super high barrier to being able to work with people who use drugs. Currently I am the Director of a Non-Profit SSP. The vision for the heart House began no less than 10 years ago and has been evolving in my mind based on my personal and professional experience. I began writting it all down 4 years ago, started the Healing Through Harm Reduction Group - a non-abstinence based recovery group - 3 years ago, got real about the "how" creating budgets and policies 2 years ago, and began to apply for 501(c)3 status one year ago. So needless to say, this isn't an impulsive leap, but rather my life's work. 🫶🏼

Vinny is a person with lived experience using drugs, being in recovery, living on the street or abandoned animal hospitals or in vans experiencing homelessness, and experiencing major mental health challenges all over the country and here in Asheville, North Carolina. After going through many of the local resources to help folks in these situations, he forged his path to thriving and stability through non-conventional recovery, support, and his artistic passions of music and art. Now he works as Lead Peer support at a medical respite where he helps folks navigate the systems he navigated, better than anyone who has only read about them. 🫶🏼 we are glad you are here!

We have a bank account ($0) and are working to get a website going and sign up for a platform that aggregates grant opportunities for easy finding! Please consider that any donation, big or small, at this phase will be absolutely instrumental in helping us grow to reach our goal of providing free transitional housing for people experiencing homelessness that want to shift their relationship to substances on their own terms ♥️

Exciting News! We officially have our 501(c)3 status! So now the work truly begins... We will be "rebranding" in light of how words carry certain implications right now... so reverse engineering from the name of our transitional living house, "The Heart House," we will be moving forward as Heart House CRC (comprehensive recovery community), as our larger organization running the HTHR groups and providing trainings! We hope to reframe "Recovery," as many people see it, into a much wider, more nuanced, and all encompassing journey to feeling better in your body and life...YOUR way! ♥️ We are sewing seeds of hope, investing deeply in our vision, looking towards a major bloom in 2026 🌸
