What is Dyspraxia? 🌸🩵

Hello!! While I have been busy beginning a new job, I have had less time to post but am hoping to get back into it!

One of my favorite conditions to work with in children is dyspraxia. While there is no “cure” for dyspraxia, Occupational Therapists can work with kids on a variety of fine and gross motor skills to help “train the brain” to target their motor planning difficulties!

💗🧠Social-Emotional Learning🧠💗

With the school year coming up, I thought it would be important to share some ways you can implement social-emotional learning into your classroom (or home)!

• Daily morning greetings at the door as students walk in or as a group.
• Emotional check-ins throughout the day.
• Positive affirmations as a class and/or in morning annoucements as a school.
• SEL check in journals or workbooks to work on in free time or set aside class work time.
• SEL whiteboard messages for students to view during the day, teacher may guide classroom discussions over message.
• Practicing coping skills such as deep breathing as a class.

As a conclusion to my occupational therapy doctoral program, I completed a Capstone and Applied Leadership Experience, with the assistance of Amanda Kidwell, OTR/L over the role of OT services in the school system in regard to students who have Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

Here is my final poster presentation over my project which I am so very proud of!
