Several of our clients have challenges with eating, especially with trying new foods. For some, their food aversions are severe enough to be diagnosed with ARFID - Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. ARFID is commonly comorbid with Autism. If untreated, it can impact a child's development and nutrition.
We do a lot of cooking as food therapy to help our clients experience and find joy in food. They can engage their 5 senses in preparing the food, which allows them to know the food better. This can make trying something new or out of their comfort zone a lot less scary, and even exciting!
Here's some pictures of making and trying broccoli cups. The process AND the final product were thoroughly enjoyed.
