Our annual community Christmas Tree Lighting was a huge success! Families gathered to celebrate the season, and we were thrilled to welcome Santa, Mrs. Claus, and their cheerful elf, who posed for photos and spread holiday joy.

The highlight of the evening was lighting the beautiful Christmas tree in front of the Athens hospital, a symbol of hope and togetherness for our community.

A special thank you to Preston & Gail Moser, their friends, and the talented members of the Woodward Avenue Church of God choir for filling the night with festive Christmas carols.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to kick off the holiday season. We hope you enjoy these photos from the event!

Meet Dolphin Riggs: A True Fighter

After a serious fall during a hike this summer, Dolphin was rescued by the Tennessee Army National Guard and airlifted to safety. She suffered a stroke and spinal injuries—but this 78-year-old hiking enthusiast didn’t let that stop her!

Following her time in the hospital, the dedicated physical therapists at Starr Regional Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Services department have helped Dolphin to regain her strength and get back to the active life she loves.

“Recovering from a stroke or serious injury isn’t just about healing—it’s about reclaiming independence and quality of life,” said Adam Foster, DPT, physical therapist at Starr Regional Medical Center. “Physical therapy plays a critical role in restoring strength, balance and confidence so active adults like Dolphin can return to the activities they love. Every step forward in therapy is a step toward living fully again.”

From hiking to playing softball and running her nonprofit Hiking for Healing, she proves every day that resilience and determination make all the difference. Her motto? “You never stop, you never quit, and you keep laughing.”

If you have suffered a stroke or injury, speak with your provider about a referral to Starr Regional Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Services. Learn more about our services at StarrRegional.com/rehabilitation-services.

Your annual physical could catch a serious condition before you ever feel a symptom. Conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even some cancers often have no early warning signs. But routine screenings during a physical can detect them early, when they’re most treatable.

Your check-up also gives your doctor a chance to look at the whole picture: your medications, mental health, sleep, stress and lifestyle goals. A quick visit today can help prevent a major issue tomorrow.
