Think you might have the flu? Here’s what to do to take care of yourself and protect others:

- Stay home and rest. Avoid work, school or public places. Rest helps your body fight the infection and prevents it from spreading to others.

- Monitor your symptoms. Keep track of severity, duration and any changes in symptoms like fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, headache, runny or stuffy nose.

- Hydrate and manage symptoms. Drink plenty of water or herbal tea. Over-the-counter medications can help with symptoms. Avoid alcohol and smoking.

- Seek medical care if needed. Call your healthcare provider if you experience trouble breathing, chest pain, severe weakness, confusion, persistent high fever or worsening symptoms, especially if you are pregnant, older or have chronic conditions. Early treatment can help reduce complications.

- Protect your community. Cover coughs and sneezes, wash your hands frequently and stay home until you’ve been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.

We recently celebrated the newly expanded Starr Regional Behavioral Health unit — increasing capacity from 18 to 24 beds.

Our program serves adults age 50+ who are experiencing a wide range of concerns related to cognitive disorders, dementia, loss or adjustment concerns, or other physical health issues, providing compassionate, specialized care close to home. The expansion means more access, more support and more healing for individuals and families in our community who need it most.

A huge thank you to our dedicated team, community partners, and everyone who made this milestone possible. Together, we’re strengthening behavioral health resources for our region and continuing our commitment to exceptional patient care. Here’s to growth, service, and brighter futures ahead!

🎉 Happy Retirement, Debbie Valadez! 🎉

After more than 23 years of dedicated service, we are celebrating the retirement of Debbie Valadez, who has been the welcoming face at the front desk of Starr Regional Family Practice - Etowah and served in many other areas of Starr Regional Medical Center over the years.

Debbie’s kindness, professionalism, and genuine care made a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was truly loved by all of Dr. Collins’ patients, and her friendly smile helped set the tone for countless visits.

While she will be deeply missed, we are so grateful for the many years she spent caring for our patients and supporting our team. Please join us in wishing Debbie a happy, healthy, and well‑deserved retirement! 💐💙

Today marks an exciting step forward as we officially moved patients into our brand new ICU space! This upgraded environment was designed with patient care, safety and healing in mind — and seeing it come to life with our patients at its heart is truly inspiring.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible teamwork of our Starr Regional “village.” Over the past several days, employees from across the hospital came together to prepare the new space — from transporting equipment and organizing supplies to double checking details that ensure a smooth and safe transition.

Here’s to a new chapter for our ICU — and to the remarkable people who make exceptional care possible every day.
