Whaaaaatt? So cool. I've just had to quit eating bread all together bc it would go bad before I finished it and I am NOT a baker! Lol I may start trying to stock my freezer!
I don’t know about you, but I grew up in a home where everything went into the freezer. My parents did a great job of keeping our freezer stocked for meals. How many times did your mom ask you to “pull out the ground beef and put it in the sink”? I heard it a lot! Sometimes there would be loaves of store bought bread in the freezer too.
Recently, I’ve learned that freezing your homemade bread, then thawing and toasting before eating can actually have some health benefits. Or at least combat some of the not so great aspects about eating bread.
✨“For samples of homemade bread, freezing and thawing the bread reduced how much it spiked blood sugar by 31 percent over two hours. Interestingly, toasting fresh bread also lowered the rise in glucose by 25 percent.
This effect was even greater when the homemade bread was frozen, thawed, then toasted – reducing the blood sugar response by 39 percent. This effect could potentially help with hunger, as glucose and insulin levels will not rise as high after eating the frozen bread”✨
Freezing bread isn’t just a great way to prevent waste, it can also be a more beneficial way to digest your bread!
An interesting note in this particular study was that the same results were not found with store bought bread. Just another reason to buy local😊
I’ll link this study in the comments!
