Secret vs. Mystery

A secret refers to information that is concealed or not openly shared. It represents knowledge that I may possess and can choose to reveal or share with others at my discretion.

On the other hand, a mystery pertains to information that is available to everyone. It is not hidden or closed off. However, the distinguishing feature of a mystery lies in the fact that it requires the intellect, mind, or consciousness to reach a certain level or degree of understanding. As we accumulate more experiences throughout our lives, whether positive or negative, we gain wisdom that allows us to comprehend and transcend these mysteries for personal growth and the betterment of ourselves and others. The Torah, among other teachings, guides us in this pursuit.

I extend my warm wishes to both Jewish and non-Jewish friends for a fantastic holiday of Shavuot and a great weekend. May you always possess a thirst for knowledge and a desire to delve deeper into the mysteries that God has bestowed upon us.

Wise words from our Rabbi.

Wise words from our Rabbi.

In the late 1860s, within the Russian Empire, huntsmen perfected a method of hunting wolves known as Flagging. By using this technique, they were able to prevent wolves from escaping by creating a psychological obstacle for them. The huntsmen would place flags made of cloth that carried the scent of humans, which naturally frightened the predators. The wolves perceived these flags as an invisible wall, and their fear would rarely allow them to overcome it and escape, ultimately leading to their capture or demise. Very rarely the predator would jump over the flags and lead others for survival.

This hunting method serves as a metaphor for the limitations we impose upon ourselves as human beings. Just like the wolves, we often find ourselves stopped short of achieving significant goals or accomplishments. Fear acts as an invisible wall that surrounds us, preventing us from taking the necessary leaps of faith and venturing beyond our comfort zones.

It's important to recognize that fear is often an illusion. The more we allow ourselves to absorb and be consumed by fear, the more we limit our potential and increase the likelihood of failure. By acknowledging that fear is a psychological construct, we can begin to challenge its power over us.
