Is anyone else a Black woman functioning with anxiety?

Everyone thinks you to have it all together. You're getting things done...What they don't know is how you always make a way to get things done even when you're going crazy on the inside. Your thoughts don't stop and your feelings are intense.

But no one sees.

If you try to talk to someone about it they don't get it. They can't understand how intense the thoughts and feelings are and why it influences your mood. They give the MOST unhelpful advice

"Just don't worry about it." Uuugh!

So you hold it in...

It doesn't help that you’ve been taught that strength and success come from pushing forward despite the chaos that you experience inside. So that’s what you do…push forward and drag that heavy bag with you.

That's just how it is.
What if I told you that there’s another way? I know you never thought that was an option.
Imagine a world where you could feel and not be ashamed of feeling. You don't have to exhaust yourself trying to figure everything out or beat yourself up because you can't stop thinking. You can squash the inner critic and be comfortable in your own skin. I'm talking long term relief, not just taking baths and going for walks.

Through this community you could:
• No longer be overshadowed by feelings of anxiety
• Learn to spot the spiral and get out early
• Gain the skills to stop thoughts from getting in the way
• Learn to distinguish effective stress from ineffective stress so that you can stop beating yourself up.

Would you take the step towards the life you always wanted?

Come get out of survival mode. Jump off the struggle bus. Turn off the struggle switch.

What do you think about when you see BLM?

We think about how fortunate we are to be doing the work in our community and fostering a place of belonging.

One of the things we regularly see in the Black mental health space is the lack of research and advocacy for Black mental wellness, from eating disorders to healthy relationships.

But we feel empowered by movements like BLM because it puts into perspective just how important it is to have Black institutions and spaces that see our cultural needs and address the intersections of Black people.

Black Lives Matter. Period.

So, we’re confident that treating the world as such will lead to more positive, impactful changes for the Black community and inspire other cultures to create and foster spaces of belonging too. 🌍✌🏾

So what you're saying is men aren't human? 🧐

Men have emotions. And as therapists, we’ve had male clients who appreciate having the space to express those emotions.

To have emotions is to be human, so let’s support our men by giving them space to express those emotions.

How do you support the men in your life when they are emotional?

REPOST: Let me tell you the most AH-MAZING Black history story you’ve probably never heard before. ⁣
⁣
Shadrach Minkins. Know that name. ⁣
⁣
He escaped slavery in Virginia in 1850. You don’t need me to say it, but his whole life had been brutal. They were f**kin’ monsters. Vampires. Buying, selling, trading, breeding, beating, and working Africans to death. ⁣
⁣
Shadrach escaped and made it all the way to Boston. ⁣
⁣
But the Boston Police and US Marshalls, under the Fugitive Slave Act, basically deputized themselves as full-time hunters of enslaved Africans. ⁣
⁣
And they caught Shadrach. That first drawing is of white folk catching him. ⁣
⁣
They him to court. And planned on shipping him back to Virginia like property. ⁣
⁣
BUT BLACK FOLK SHOWED THE HELL UP!!⁣
⁣
On this very day, February 15th, of 1851.⁣
⁣
In court. Two dozen strong. IN FORCE.⁣
⁣
Armed. Pumped up. ⁣
⁣
And they snatched Shadrach right out of the court. ⁣
⁣
In front of everybody And literally dared police to do anything about it. ⁣
⁣
And brother Shadrach made it all the way to Montreal. New name. Started a family. Wife. Kids. ⁣
⁣
And not a single picture exists of him to this very day. ⁣
⁣
Google it. It’s all facts. ⁣
⁣
They were so badass!!

I didn’t know Moe could get down like that! 😂

Stepping into your own and fully being yourself is one of the most liberating things you can do.

Speaking from experience, I remember when I was trying to be everything for everyone. I wanted to be the “strong Black woman” and had this idea that someday, I would fulfill everyone else's needs and finally be able to kick back and relax.

It wasn’t until I came up on a situation where I had to say “no” that I realized I could speak my truth so boldly and still keep the support of my family and friends.

No one pushed, pressured, or even questioned me saying “no.”

They simply responded with, “okay.”

It didn’t devalue my connection with my loved ones. It didn’t make me feel any less like a strong Black woman. But it did open my eyes to my self-worth.

My value is immeasurable. And so is yours.

And even if I had received some backlash, I understood that I can’t be everyone else's expectations.

So, what’s the benefit when you have the audacity to be you?

Reduced stress and worry about others' reactions so you can manage your anxiety better.

If you’re ready to step into your own, Simplicity Psychotherapy’s got you!
