Inspired by one doctor's brilliant "prescription" note for Jessica Shaw's mother, which they shared on Twitter this week, we've mocked up a script for fully vaccinated grandparents visiting with a single household in a private setting. 💙

Read more about the CDC's updated guidance for fully vaccinated people: https://www.jhsph.edu/covid-19/articles/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-cdcs-covid19-guidance-for-fully-vaccinated-individuals.html

NOTE 1: This post refers specifically to the CDC guidelines about fully vaccinated people visiting with a single household in a private setting. These individuals do not have to wear masks or social distance if all unvaccinated people in the other household are at low risk of severe COVID-19.

If anyone in the other household is at high risk of severe COVID-19 and has not been vaccinated, then everyone—including the fully vaccinated individual(s)—should continue to wear masks, social distance, wash hands, and continue following CDC guidance for public gatherings.

NOTE 2: A person is considered to be "fully vaccinated" after at least two weeks past their second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, or at least two weeks after their single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. This two-week period gives the body time to establish a strong immune response after the second dose.

NEW: Event and Donation Drive!

The Nell Hodgson School of Nursing conducted a virtual clinical immersion program to the Dominican Republic (DR) where they partnered with Foundation for Peace (DR location). The last six weeks, a group of nursing students has been able to speak directly with members of a batey, healthcare professionals, and organization leadership to discuss the reality of healthcare in the country and understand their needs. Through direct contact via zoom and email, the organization was able to compile a list of items that they need to develop nurse training programs that will allow communities to receive more frequent care for non urgent situations. The supplies will also support the overall health and well-being of community members in the batey. EGHNA has partnered with Foundation for Peace in the DR and will be working to compile the requested supplies to support the work that they do and the people they serve. Foundation for Peace is an incredibly sustainable organization that is doing life-changing work through empowerment and compassion based approaches. We are looking forward to working with them! Please contact our President Lauren George via email for donation drive drop off location that is safe and near campus 🌏

This weeks Global Spotlight is Bernie! 🌏

“Hi EGHNA!
Thank you so much for the nomination this month! My name is Berni Saavedra and I am a 3rd semester AMSN student. A big reason why I decided to pursue nursing is because of my past global health experience. For two years, I served as a maternal and child health Peace Corps volunteer in a small rural community located in the western highlands of Guatemala. I had the opportunity to work side-by-side many inspiring and incredible nurses and midwives. I helped with running home visits, monitoring malnourished children, and facilitating health talks to groups in the community on maternal and child health topics. There was something about working in the grassroot level that instilled a deep passion within me to work for underserved communities. I am grateful for the experience and what it opened my eyes and heart to. As an aspiring FNP, I hope to continue to have the opportunity to serve and empower individuals and building unity through genuine connections with populations globally.”

Our First Global Spotlight is Helen Davidson! Helen recently graduated from Emory’s ABSN program. After taking the NCLEX, she will be going to Liberia, West Africa for several months to start the preliminary steps of a maternal health research project. We cannot wait to see what the future has in store for you! 🌏

This past week our Engagement Lead Helen dropped off donated items to the Decatur Cooperative Ministry! Due to COVID-19, it is estimated that food insecurity will hit 52 million people in the U.S. which is an increase of 17 million people from pre-pandemic times (NBC,2020).
