Warriors & friends…you may have noticed I haven’t been active online for a while now….about 9 months actually.

I am officially stepping away to give birth to my daughter and start our life together!

I care deeply about this community and advocacy. I appreciate all of you who have supported my me and BBBM, especially those of you who have been with me from the start, you know who you are.

I hope that my content and the work I have put in to help educate, support, and advocate for patients continues to help while I am away. Please feel free to share my page with your communities to help spread awareness, tips/tricks, and encouragement to other IBD & IBS patients!

I am beyond excited for this new chapter in my life and know I am about to become an entirely new Molly.

Due to this major life change….for the first time since I created Better Bellies by Molly I will not be answering emails or DM’s. Please lean on one another in my absence.

Warriors….please take care of yourselves! 😊

Love,
Molly 💖

I feel honored when my friends come to me to talk about p**p, because I know it’s not the easiest thing to talk about. I am always happy to talk about it and am so glad my friends feel they can talk to me about p**p and hopefully ANYTHING for that matter! When someone talks to me about p**p, it me feel like the p**p talk queen that I am! 💩 👸🏻

But for REAL, I think it is important to normalize talking about our bodies including p**ping in order to reduce the stigma.

Drop a 💩 in the comments if you want to normalize talking about p**p too!

📣 Advocating for your own personal health is critical!!! It always has been but is especially important in the current healthcare landscape. 🏥

I know first hand how the healthcare system can make you feel like advocating for yourself makes you a pain, a difficult patient, or high maintenance. I am here to tell you it DOES NOT as I have also learned first hand that if I DO NOT advocate for my personal healthcare needs I WILL not get the care I need and deserve and sometimes even the most basic human decency.

Speak up!! 🗣️🆙
Ask questions!! ❓

Drop a 💩 in the comments if you have had a f***l calprotectin test and tell everyone what your experience was like!

Also PLEASE SHARE 📣 this post so that everyone can learn about this non-invasive way to measure gut inflammation.

Interesting Fact: When I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2012 I never had a f***l calprotectin test and it wasn’t common practice until more recently. I am so glad this test is available to help keep tabs on gut inflammation without invasive procedures.

I am currently on the every 6 month plan with more often testing when my calprotectin is high.

🗣️ Talk to your healthcare provider about f***l calprotectin testing and what is right for YOU!

See you in the comments!

Swipe through the above 👆🏼 graphic for tips on transitioning from PEDIATRIC to ADULT GI care by Harsh, Founder at , and Molly, Founder of !

Molly:
I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC) when I was 23 years old so I didn’t experience the transition from pediatric to adult GI care.

However, I did see my pediatrician until I was 21 years old or so and found the experience of seeing a pediatric provider vs an adult provider quite different. I also learned from patients via the support groups I have run and my experience working in healthcare how different the pediatric vs adult experience can be as a patient.

Harsh:
IBD Hero founder Harsh was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease (CD) a little over 10 years ago and will be making this very transition this year, so please wish him luck!

Please share this post to help other patients making this transition!! 💜💛

Welcome to Better Bellies by Molly! 🤗

My goal for Better Bellies by Molly is to help patients! I do this by leaning on my first hand experience as a chronic GI patient along with my experience working in healthcare and public health for the past 10+ years in addition to using my formal education in communication (BS) and public health (MPH).

I truly want to create a better more equitable world for those impacted by chronic GI and mental health conditions and I am beyond grateful for this community!

All are welcome here, this is a safe space for all people.

With love,
Molly

I went to several gastroenterologist before I first heard the term REMISSION. Crazy right?!

Now I share the different types of remission so all patients have this information!

For me, reaching “deep remission” where inflammation isn’t showing up on blood tests, stool tests, under the endoscope, under the microscope, and with little to no symptoms is the ultimate goal as an IBD patient. It is important to monitor our IBD beyond our symptoms!!

Talk with your healthcare provider about remission and if your provider isn’t onboard with helping you work towards REMISSION…find one that will!

I hope this posts helps you understand the different types of remission for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Please share 📣 so that other IBD patients have this information too!

I REALLY wish the different types of ulcerative colitis were explained to me when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis back in 2012.

When I was first diagnosed with ulcerative colitis I had ulcerative proctitis meaning the inflammation was limited to my re**um. Over the years the inflammation moved its way up my colon. For a while my colitis was distal meaning it was located in the lower part of my colon close to where the colon meets the re**um. As time progressed the inflammation worked its way up the left side of my colon where I have had left sided colitis most of the last 10+ years of my UC journey. The most extensive my UC has been was when it moved into my transverse colon similar to the extensive colitis slide above. The location of inflammation can change and if you are living with ulcerative colitis and aren’t sure where your inflammation is within your colon ask your GI.

You can also learn more about your inflammation by reading the pathology reports from your colonoscopy biopsies, and reading the findings the physician writes after performing your scope. The terms used on those documents are medical in nature and not easy for patients to understand so ask lots of questions until you feel you understand!!!

I hope this post is helpful especially for those new to living with UC. Please like and share this post to help other UC warriors!!!!!
