Remembering the ancestors is an integral part of most cultures around the world. Unfortunately due to the nature of our history in this country many black and brown people have lost that aspect of ourselves. Our ancestors are our literal roots. How can we say "Remember where you came from" yet look at our ancestors (ancestor veneration) with suspicion?
Thankfully there has been a change in the wind and people are beginning to wake up to the different forms of spirituality and to rethink some of what we have been programmed to believe. Ancestor veneration is not worship. It is respect and remembrance.

There's a lot of information online about how set up an ancestor altar and it can get confusing. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed. Each item that goes on your altar serves a purpose. The candle is a beacon to light their way to you. Water holds memories and acts as a spiritual gateway. Incense is pleasing to the senses and helps raise the vibrations of an area. And plants or flowers are also pleasing to the senses and represent life. The candle, the water, the incense, and the plant/flowers represent each of the elements of which we are composed. Mementos of your passed on loved ones help to strengthen the connection, as do photos (ONLY PHOTOS OF THE DECEASED). Beyond that , different traditions will have different specifications so if you are a part of a particular spiritual ideology consult your elders. But if you're flying solo, just know to treat your altar with the same care that you would treat a visit to your great grandma's house. Sit with them. Share your food with them. Give them things they used to like. Talk to them. They will answer (through dreams, visions, and synchronicities).

Lastly, when you call on them feel free to specify that you are reaching out to the high vibrating, positive ancestors who are here for your highest good. Because the fact that they have passed on does not necessarily mean they have learned their lessons. Or they may have abused you in life and you're not read yfor that contact. Boundaries are acceptable and encouraged on every plane of existence.

I was scrolling on YouTube when I came across this video. He said a few things that prompted me to want to post this. One of the things was "a lot of men suffer in silence." I agree with that one hundred percent. Soooo many people suffer in silence, our men and our women. People struggling with a poor self-image. People struggling with toxic relationships. People struggling with negative self-talk and limiting mindsets. These types of beliefs and experiences can make life seem unbearable. I've been really low before. I've been so low I didn't know which way was up. I have a special place in my heart for people who are on a quest to find some kind of inner peace, the ones who are searching everywhere to find a way to change their circumstances. Now, this particular video addresses thoughts of su***de and I would be remiss if I didn't say unequivocally that if you're experiencing thoughts like this please reach out to a medical professional. But, that aside, I must confess that men like him, people like him, are why I do what I do. It's my calling to help people pull themselves out of the depths by finding their own light, by helping them see the possibilities that are available to them. No one has to live in misery. You don't have to live in misery. You don't have to accept a barren internal life. You don't have to accept the current conditions that you're in if they're not in alignment with the life that you envision for yourself. Life is what you make it. But the secret to that is that your external life is going to be a reflection of your internal state. Kevin Gates is rich and famous and yet this is his story out of his own mouth. Reflect on that for a minute. Feelings like this are irrespective of social or economic status. And peace is available for all.

Soooo the infamous Mercury has finally gone back direct after it's few weeks of retrograde. And, while we are still in it's shadow phase, I decided to pull a few cards real quick to see what lessons we should take from this first Mercury retrograde of the year.
As you may, or may not, know one of the blessings of retrograde season (Mercury in particular) is that it gives us a chance to slow down and pay closer attention to detail. As well as it gives us a chance to revisit old relationships or conversations that maybe weren't as settled as we thought they were.
So for this Mercury retrograde Spirit wants us to remember to speak the truth in all situations. Be confident in what we know and don't allow ourselves to be muzzled or dismissed simply because we may be lower (younger) in the family hierarchy. Of course, Spirit reminds us, treat our elders with the proper respect. And there is a way to express truth without being cruel and callus. But if victory is our intention, then honesty and integrity is a must. Keep your speech honest and maintain your high ground.
Lastly, be discerning. Don't let people bait you into arguments. You know what you know. You know where you've been and where you're going. Keeping it real at all times and solid physical/mental/emotional boundaries should be a way of life.
