๐จ MEDICARE TELEHEALTH FLEXIBILITIES EXPIRED๐จ
As of October 1, 2025, most temporary Medicare telehealth flexibilities have expired due to Congressional inaction, reverting policies to pre-pandemic rules for most non-behavioral services.
๐ Key Expirations:
โช๏ธ Geographic & originating site restrictions are back for most services
โช๏ธ Home-based and audio-only telehealth no longer reimbursed (except for behavioral health)
โช๏ธ Hospital-at-Home waiver has ended
โช๏ธ FQHCs and RHCs lose distant site status for non-behavioral services after Dec. 2025
๐ง What Remains (for now):
โ
Behavioral/mental health services still have telehealth access
โ
Audio-only telehealth allowed for behavioral health
โ
DEA prescribing flexibilities extended to Dec. 2025
โ
In-person visit requirement waived until Jan. 1, 2026
๐ Provider Action Items:
๐น Identify patients affected by the rollback
๐น Schedule required in-person visits
๐น Monitor CMS and DEA guidance
๐น Support advocacy for the Telehealth Modernization Act (H.R. 5081)
๐ฃ If you're a provider, billing specialist, or administrator โ now is the time to adapt and advocate. The end of COVID-era flexibilities marks a major shift in care delivery and reimbursement.
๐ Stay informed. Stay proactive.
