Using desserts as rewards can set kids up for eating issues. It idolizes the dessert. Instead, offer a small amount of sweets with the meal and use language like this.

We don't make multiple meals in my house, but I do try to serve at least 1-2 items I know my kids like. And if they are not hungry, they won't eat. Unless you have concern about weight gain in your child (your pediatrician is concerned), it is absolutely okay to let kids listen to their hunger cues.

And if all your kids ate was the m and ms and the blueberries, it's okay. Don't call attention to it. Just keep on offering. If they are hungry, they will eat!

Thankful for them.

While this year has been particular difficult for everyone, I'm hanging onto the fact that I have them. We moved into a new house that we love and we are lucky to have a great school pod this year. I truly hope my girls can hang onto the good memories of this year and not the difficult ones.

While we are sad to miss out on a big celebratory dinner with our whole family, we will embrace the small intimate time to spend together this year.
