🧰 Water (1 gallon per person per day)
🧰 Food
🧰 Flashlight and batteries
🧰 First-aid kit
🧰 Medications

Disasters can strike without warning—and in the aftermath, you may need to rely on your own supplies until help arrives.

Now is the time to build or update your emergency preparedness kit with essential items to support your household for several days.

Consider including:
• Water: One gallon per person per day (for drinking and sanitation)
• Food: Several days’ worth of non-perishable food and a manual can opener
• Radio/Flashlight: Battery-powered or hand-crank, with extra batteries
• Chargers: Cell phone chargers and a backup battery
• First Aid Kit: Include extra medications and personal supplies

Take time this week to check your kit, talk with your family, and make a plan.

September is National Preparedness Month. Discover some helpful tips on what to include in your emergency kit. Be prepared and stay safe in the event of a disaster. Don't be a victim.

When it comes to emergency preparedness, a basic disaster supply kit can make all the difference. So, what’s in it? You may guess, a flashlight, extra batteries, and a first aid-kit. Yes, that’s correct. But the list doesn’t end there.

Here are other items to include:
- Water and non-perishable food for several days

- Extra cell phone battery or charger

- Battery-powered or hand crank radio that can receive NOAA Weather Radio tone alerts and extra batteries

- Whistle to signal for help

- Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place

- Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation

- Non-sparking wrench or pliers to turn off utilities

- Can opener (if kit contains canned food)

- Local maps
