Compression is one of the first things recommended after surgery.
But rarely does anyone explain how it should actually fit — or what happens when it doesn't.
Here's what most people don't know:
Compression that's too tight, digging into the skin, or leaving marks isn't just uncomfortable.
It can trap fluid, create uneven pressure, and contribute to harder, denser tissue — which is exactly what you're trying to avoid.
Compression doesn't fix fibrosis.
It influences how it forms.
Worn correctly, it:
→ Supports fluid movement
→ Reduces excess buildup
→ Helps tissue settle more evenly
But it has to be paired with movement, proper care, and understanding what your body needs.
What does correct compression feel like?
✓ Snug and supportive — not suffocating
✓ A little effort to put on (that's normal)
✓ Even pressure distribution — nothing digging in
✓ No restriction to circulation or movement
If yours is leaving deep marks, causing numbness, or creating obvious pressure points — that's not a sign you're healing.
That's a sign it doesn't fit correctly.
Compression is a tool.
Used well, it helps.
Used incorrectly, it can work against you.
