Meet Xander, a 21-year-old Heart Warrior who has shown nothing but strength, determination, and joy throughout his journey with Truncus Arteriosus and Interrupted Aortic Arch. Under the care of Dr. Neill Videlefsky and the team at our Scottish Rite clinic, Xander continues to inspire everyone around him.

Xander is passionate about Monster Trucks, video games, and spending time with friends. He never lets his “special heart” keep him from enjoying life’s adventures, whether that’s attending Monster Jam, rocking out at a Dave Matthews concert, or just hanging out like any other 21-year-old.

This year marks an incredible milestone for Xander, as he graduated from his two-year program at The Horizons School, where he built independence through executive functioning and life skills training! He’s now headed back for a third year to continue his internship and work toward a potential full-time position. 🎉

Xander shows that heart warriors can chase their passions, reach big milestones, and thrive. We’re honored to celebrate all he has achieved and all that’s yet to come!❤️

We are grateful to once again be recognized for Excellence in Patient Experience by NRC. This marks the third consecutive year of this honor and our fifth overall excellence award in the last 8 years!

The Excellence in Patient Experience Awards are based on net scores from a direct to patient survey surrounding the question of whether a patient is willing to recommend a healthcare organization to others in their community. This award is a direct reflection of the compassion and professionalism exhibited by every member of our team.

We'd like to extend our gratitude to our fantastic staff members for providing excellent care to our patients.

At the Children's Heart Center, our pediatric cardiologists diagnose and treat all heart conditions, from simple to complex, in children, infants and teens.

Happy 3rd birthday, AJ! 💚 We’re so glad to see this brave heart warrior thriving!

Dr. William Mahle, Pediatric Cardiologist at Children's Cardiology, shares, "A monumental stride forward! We're thrilled to announce our first patient has enrolled in our groundbreaking study, exploring new hope for heart failure. This is a vital step toward safer, more effective treatments and brighter futures. Together, we're pioneering progress!"

Earlier this month, the first Marcus Center for Cellular Therapy patient was infused with cell therapy.

Born with dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart becomes enlarged and cannot pump blood effectively, Gabrielle has undergone several procedures and spent many years in and out of our hospital for treatment. When she learned about a new study exploring how newborn donor stem cells could be used to combat dilated cardiomyopathy, Gabrielle was eager to participate. She saw this opportunity as a chance to make a difference and help future patients facing the same condition.

On October 7, under the care of Dr. Michael Davis, Director of the Emory and Children's Heart Research and Outcomes Center, Dr. William Mahle, Chief of Cardiology and Co-Chief of the Children’s Heart Center and Dr. Edwin Horwitz, Director of the Transplantation Biology and Therapeutics at our Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center, she received the first of three infusions, with her next two scheduled before the end of this year. She is one of 24 patients who will participate in the two-year trial.

At just 17 months old, Jax has already shown incredible strength and resilience. Born with pulmonary vein stenosis, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and pulmonary hypertension, he has undergone three surgeries and four heart catheterizations, and spent exactly 100 days in the hospital during his first year of life.

Cared for by Dr. William McEachern at our Canton clinic, Jax is a happy and sweet boy who loves going for walks outside, reading books, watching Ms. Rachel, playing with his Little People Farm, waving, giving high fives, and dancing.

One of Jax’s greatest victories has been his progress in feeding therapy. Once fully dependent on a nasogastric (NG) tube for nutrition, he is now fully off! Today, he enjoys three meals a day, snacks, and water by mouth, a milestone his family celebrates with immense joy and pride.

Jax’s journey is a testament to his strength, the dedication of his care team, and the unwavering love and advocacy of his family. 💙
