This is National Volunteer Week and we would like to honor those who are the heart of the organization - the volunteers who contribute their time and talent to make the Red Cross mission possible every day.

Cole Ettingoff is a Disaster Action Team member from the Central Midwest Chapter. He has deployed to numerous disasters, from severe weather to home fires.

“The Red Cross has made a commitment to our community that when disaster strikes, we will be there,” Ettingoff said. “I volunteer because it truly takes a team to make that possible and I have seen how incredibly impactful it can be when our team shows up in someone’s darkest moments.”

A big thank you to the Community Foundation of Central Georgia.

They're a long-standing partner of the Red Cross. Their financial donation supports home fire preparedness, relief and recovery in Central Georgia.

The Red Cross responds to about 65,000 disasters a year - and the majority are home fires.

ATTN: north and central Georgia - today’s conditions are primed for wildfires. ⚠️

According to the National Weather Service, low humidity and very dry vegetation mean fires can ignite and spread quickly this afternoon and evening.

The safest wildfire is the one that never starts. Here’s how you can help prevent them:

🔥 Use a proper fire pit, clear of vegetation and surrounded by stones
🔥 Never leave a fire unattended, even overnight
🔥 Fully extinguish fires with water and dirt before leaving
🔥 Skip burning on windy day

A few simple steps can make a big difference in keeping our communities safe.

When it comes to donating blood, everyone has a why and that purpose connects us all. 🩸

“We want to make sure we continue to uplift not only our community, but communities around us.”
— Edward Wilder, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., member

One donation can reach beyond a single person to support patients, families and entire communities in moments that matter most.

Thank you to Edward and everyone who showed up to donate, honor a legacy and help save lives. We’re so grateful to the Chi Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for partnering with us again this year for a sickle cell awareness blood drive.

Blood donors who are Black are almost three times more likely to be a match for patients living with sickle cell disease. Closely matched blood helps prevent immune responses and transfusion complications, showing just how powerful community connection can be.

And the impact doesn’t stop there. Blood donations also support patients undergoing surgery, cancer treatment, complicated pregnancies and those facing traumatic injuries.

When we give, we uplift not just our own communities but all those around us.

Give back. Stay connected. Make a lifesaving difference.
