Every blood donation has a story behind it.

In this powerful account, three people share how blood donations changed their lives.

Surviving a devastating car accident. Fighting a life-threatening illness. Turning personal loss into advocacy for others.

Their experiences are a reminder that a single donation can mean the difference between life and death and that the generosity of blood donors makes lifesaving care possible.

Our hearts are with our neighbors across central Georgia today.

Severe weather swept through the region on Thursday, and the American Red Cross has already helped nearly 100 people - a number we expect will rise.

In Macon County, powerful winds destroyed several homes, leaving families to share the terrifying moments they spent riding out the storm.

But no one is facing this alone. ❤️

Local American Red Cross volunteers from across the region responded the moment it was safe to do so. Our teams are on the ground conducting damage assessments, providing emergency supplies, offering assistance and helping families plan their next steps toward recovery.

If you or someone you know needs Red Cross assistance, please call
📞 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the severe weather that struck Marshallville and the Macon County area this morning.

In the midst of the damage, we’ve witnessed the strength and resilience of this community — and the lifesaving impact of support when it’s needed most.

“Red Cross is a lifesaver,” said Brandi Barnes. “I’m so grateful for the Red Cross helping our community during this difficult time.”

Brandi shared the terrifying moment the storm hit her home: “All of a sudden we heard a big loud impact from the tree that fell on top of our home. It fell through the walk-in closet. So, me and my children, we ran to the bedroom on the other side of the home to stay safe. It had us so scared and we just praying, kept praying and God came right through and saved us. It did damage our home, but I know things like that can be replaced.”

Anyone impacted can call 1-800-RED CROSS for assistance.

As part of our annual Red Cross regional meetings, we partnered with community organizations across Georgia for a day of service.

The Greater Atlanta Chapter served in Conyers, helping to pass out food at the Rockdale County Food Bank and teaching a "Be Red Cross Ready" disaster preparedness class at the Rockdale Senior Center.

Our commitment to the community is at the heart of the Red Cross mission.

Our Southwest Chapter team had an incredible day partnering with the Fuller Center for Housing in Americus, Georgia!

With a build coming up in April, they needed help emptying and reorganizing their tool trailer, so we rolled up our sleeves and got to work! We also helped improve accessibility for a local woman who uses a wheelchair by installing pavers to create a smoother, safer transition to her ramp.

The day ended with a meaningful side trip to the Andersonville National Cemetery, where we visited the Clara Barton Memorial. A powerful reminder of service, sacrifice and compassion.
