Like the "Fire Hydrant" variation, straddling can help your hands-and-knees position be a little more supported while using gravity to help your baby turn more anterior (aka your baby's back against the front of your belly), which is usually the easiest position for birth. Try it!

SIGNS YOUR BABY IS NOT IN THE RIGHT POSITION FOR LABOUR 👶🏽🚨

Most mums don't know this until it's too late 😩

You're 36, 37, 38 weeks pregnant…
Your baby is moving, your bump looks fine…
But is your baby actually in the RIGHT position for birth? 👀

Because position MATTERS more than most people tell you 🚨

Here are the signs to watch for 👇🏽

🔴 Constant back pain in late pregnancy
Baby's spine might be pressing against yours - this is called back labour and it HURTS 😩

🔴 Kicks near your bladder, not the top
Feet down low = possible breech baby 👶🏽🙃

🔴 A hard round lump under your ribs
That could be baby's HEAD… meaning baby is in the wrong way up 🚨

🔴 Baby's head not engaging after 36 weeks
If the head is still high and floating, position could be the reason

🔴 Lopsided or flat-looking bump
A well-positioned baby usually gives a rounder shape 👀

♦️ What helps?
🚶🏽‍♀️ Walk daily
🪑 Sit upright, stop slouching!
🙇🏽‍♀️ Get on all fours to encourage baby to shift
📲 Look up Spinning Babies - it works!

♦️ Most babies turn on their own but knowing the signs means you can act early and talk to your midwife!

Knowledge is power mama 💪🏽

Infusing Passion Into Nursing Through Perinatal Potpourri

LaShea has been a perinatal nurse for 24 years and in that time has developed a wide range of skills, abilities and knowledge to empower your healthcare team. Her delivery of new information is presented in a way that captivates her audiences and leaves them wanting further development and mentoring. This company was developed because of the large amount of unit based educators; I began to mentor after they had enrolled in one of my on-site courses. I found myself in my downtime being a teacher, an advisor, a role model, a coach and a motivator to many of my past attendees. So I have developed a mentorship program that gives unit based educators or a nurse champion a comprehensive program that will provide directional guidance as they learn and adapt to the many tasks and skills they are expected to obtain as a new educator or similar role.

Our values: Perinatal Potpourri’s vision is just as the Holy Scriptures state “faith without works is dead” “ideas and thoughts without action are worthless” Helen Keller. So we value ourselves on not providing our mentees with just the knowledge of the best evidence to guide clinical practice but effective strategies to translate that into clinical practice. This program benefits the entire organization because ultimately EBP provides improvement in the quality of care and improves patient outcomes/satisfaction while decreasing healthcare costs, morbidities and mortalities.

Finally, we value providing tools to continue to invigorate and motivate bedside nurses through the programs competency and professional resources. This will ultimately keep their lights shining bright and maintain their zeal for direct patient care. Sign-up today for AWHONN Advanced EFM Course, AWHONN Instructor Trainer Course, Virtual InPatient OB Review Course, Virtual EFM Review Course, Virtual Maternal-Newborn Review Course or On-Site Courses as well!
