What a nice post about our visit in November!! Looking forward to returning again this year!!

Patients with Heart Disease in focus at the NMDC

International collaboration is at the heart of the NMDC’s work. We have had the honour and pleasure of collaborating with many wonderful nurses and midwives from around the world and are very grateful for their contribution to achieving our mission. One of them is Dr. Anita Rich who has been visiting the Kurdistan Region for many years. Her kindness and enthusiasm inspire us all and we are very happy that she shared her expertise with us and the nurses from the Cardiac Centre in Erbil. She talked about the role of nurses in the care of patients with heart diseases and demonstrated the great potential of nurses to improve care and life of patients and their families. Thank you, Anita!

Enjoying a long layover in Istanbul heading to Iraq. So excited to be going back and looking forward to seeing the amazing nurses there again! Also excited to teach at the Nursing and Midwifery Development Centre and the Cardiac Specialty Hospital.

We made it safe and sound to a city almost 7000 miles east of Atlanta!

The First International Nursing & Midwifery Conference in the Kurdistan Region. 5-7 November 2023. Our conference aims to develop nursing & midwifery in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Middle East. In partnership between NMDC, College of Nursing/HMU, TIU and the Ministry of Health.

It was wonderful to travel to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq again!! We were invited to meet several doctors and nurses at a pediatric hospital and adult cardiology hospital to plan for future teaching trips. We were also invited to meet with another doctor who is the General Directorate of Health in Erbil with the Ministry of Health. We were so happy to spend time with an amazing nurse educator in person after many Zoom planning meetings! We were also very glad to be able to personally deliver 60 pounds of medications -that’s a lot of bottles! - To Bajad Kandala 2 Yazidi Refugee Camp we had visited before. The next day we headed south to Sulimanayah and met up with the pediatric cardiology team from all over the US to treat patients - some just a few days old- with congenital heart defects. What an honor to meet these amazing families and to work with this team. And what fun it was to work with two incredible Kurdish nurses!! We realize there are great needs all over the world, but we feel that this is one of the places God has called us to be and we can’t wait to return!!
