Big shoutout to Consumer Reports and their investigative reporter Nicole Greenfield for diving into ingredient safety in personal care again! 💚

Consumer Reports just released their latest coverage on chemicals of concern still found in everyday products, and they offered practical advice for shoppers.

There's one we especially like 🥰: "Keep it simple: read labels, choose products that say they're free of these ingredients, and use ingredient-checking tools like Clearya," alongside other tools.

Their video reporting was picked up by FOX 5, ABC 6 News, WESH 2 News, and others, helping raise awareness 🙌

💡 The bottom line: You don't have to wait for regulations to catch up. Apps like Clearya help you vet your shampoo, lotion, makeup, and more - right now - flagging chemicals of concern and showing you safer alternatives. 📲

Some good news for your makeup bag and bathroom shelf! 💄

Celebrating a big year for Clearya's collaboration with the California Department of Public Health's Safe Cosmetics Program (CSCP). CSCP just released their 2025 results, and here is how CSCP is making your shopping safer (with some data-driven support from Clearya Insights 😎):

📊 23,000 products reported by companies, including fragrance ingredients (50% increase from last year!)

💪 We used Clearya’s technology to help the State identify products that weren’t previously reporting their ingredients, bringing them into the light.

💡 Bit by bit, transparency is winning. By working together with brands, the State is ensuring thousands of ingredients are now properly disclosed. Some of these are also visible through Clearya so you can make more informed choices.

The quality of any dataset is shaped long before it's even collected. Expanding who can participate broadens which realities are captured and measured in the first place. That's why we've launched multilingual support in Clearya Survey, with Spanish added alongside English 🎯 [Versión en español abajo].

Clearya Survey is an on-site data collection app designed for fieldwork at scale, used by organizations to capture product information in stores, salons, laboratories, other workplaces, and in homes. Multilingual support ensures these projects can be carried out consistently across diverse settings and participant groups, with data streaming directly into Clearya Insights for customized analysis and reporting. 📸

🤝 We're rolling this out with Lideres Campesinas, a California-based organization that has spent decades building leadership among farmworker women and youth and running statewide, community-led programs across California. Their experience coordinating large participant networks and executing structured field initiatives made them a natural partner for this rollout.

This work benefits our partner organizations like the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) by providing data and analysis that can contribute to research on safer consumer products.

💬 We're continuing to expand language support. Which language would you like to see next?

¿Qué idioma te gustaría ver a continuación?

Thank you Fox News for placing cosmetic safety in the national spotlight 🙏.

Fox News coverage of chemicals of concern still found in everyday products like shampoo, sunscreen, and tampons included a shout-out for the free Clearya app: “That mindset has led to an explosion of consumer-driven tools like Yuka and Clearya, apps that scan barcodes and analyze ingredient safety.”

While federal protections like the Safer Beauty Bill Package work their way through Congress (thank you Breast Cancer Prevention Partners! 💜), tools like Clearya help people check products today, whether it’s a bottle of shampoo, sunscreen, or hair products, flagging hazardous chemicals and pointing to safer alternatives.

💡 At the same time, our Clearya Insights AI-driven platform transforms ingredient data and information from diverse sources into actionable analysis for regulators, ESG investors, researchers, environmental health organizations, and green chemistry leaders—accelerating the shift toward safer products across the market.

📢 The 2025 Safer Beauty Bill Package is back in Congress. Shout‑out to Clearya's partners at Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP) and their colleagues for championing four landmark bills that could transform cosmetic safety in the U.S. 🙏

This package would:
✅ Ban some of the most hazardous chemicals still allowed in personal care products (phthalates, formaldehyde-releasers, and more)
✅ Require full ingredient transparency, including for fragrance and flavors
✅ Invest in protections for women of color, salon workers, and other highly exposed communities
✅ Improve supply chain transparency to help companies make safer products

❤️ A special thank you to Janet Nudelman, Director of BCPP’s Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, not only for continuously moving the Safer Beauty Bill Package forward in Congress, but also for pointing NBC Chicago viewers toward practical steps consumers can take today. We’re honored Clearya was recommended as a favorite app for checking products and finding safer options. Watch the reel! 🎬.

💡 In parallel, our Clearya Insights platform supports ESG investors, regulators, researchers, environmental health organizations, and green chemistry leaders with the large‑scale data and analysis they need to help accelerate the shift toward safer products across the market.

📣 California Dept of Public Health screened 3,000 cosmetics for banned chemicals under the new laws. Clearya’s tools helped track progress – and flag the gaps.

Even with two groundbreaking state laws in effect since January 1, 2025 – AB 2762 (banning 24 hazardous ingredients) and AB 2771 (banning PFAS) – prohibited chemicals are still present in some cosmetics on California shelves.

📊 California Safe Cosmetics Program (CSCP) at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) led the screening using Clearya Insights and Clearya Survey: our data collection and AI-powered analysis tools. 3,000 product labels were captured at stores in 30 cities by members of Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative and Heritage Movement. Read the report to discover which 8 prohibited ingredients were found listed across categories like hair dye, nail polish, skincare, and makeup.

💡 The good news: the vast majority of products were found to comply – a major win for public health and a testament to the years of advocacy that led to these laws. But there’s more work ahead to ensure no one is exposed to harmful ingredients – anywhere.

🧪 These findings show how data-driven tools like Clearya Insights and Clearya Survey can help decision makers close the gap before harmful products reach consumers – and support the transition to safer alternatives.

🎉 Big congratulations to Clearya's incredible partners at Silent Spring Institute Black Women For Wellness Occidental College and Columbia University on their important new study — now featured in NPR, The Washington Post, New York Post, and beyond! 👏

📣 The research reveals something everyone deserves to know:

More than half of Black and Latina women in the study unknowingly used personal care products containing formaldehyde-releasing preservatives — toxic chemicals linked to cancer and allergic reactions. And these weren’t niche products — we're talking about lotions, shampoos, body soaps, cosmetics, and even eyelash glue. The need for transparency and safer products couldn’t be more urgent.

🚀 We're proud that Clearya Insights played a role in this work by contributing an AI-based technology that converts label photos to clean ingredient names and screens them for chemicals of concern, which helped build the dataset.

Clearya Insights: https://www.clearya.com/insights

This study is a powerful example of how technology + community-driven research can uncover hidden hazards and drive change.

🛑 So what can you do?
✅ Use Clearya 😎: our app flags formaldehyde and its sneaky releasers, even when they’re buried under unfamiliar names like DMDM hydantoin or imidazolidinyl urea.
✅ Read Silent Spring Institute’s excellent guide for more tips on spotting and avoiding these chemicals:

🚀 Clearya Insights: Empowering Safer Products with AI-Driven Analytics 🚀

At Clearya, we're committed to transforming product safety through innovation. Clearya Insights, our latest platform, continuously gathers and analyzes product and market data from diverse sources. AI processes this information to create a comprehensive, up-to-date view of individual products, which is then aggregated to assess entire product categories and full brand portfolios.

As highlighted in our recent interview with Green Chemistry & Commerce Council - GC3:

"This allows brands, retailers, and investors to see where they stand compared to their peers, assess business risk, identify reformulation opportunities, and prepare for regulatory restrictions in advance."

💡 By equipping industry stakeholders with data-driven insights and automation, we help integrate safer chemistry into supply chains—making sustainability a competitive advantage, not just a compliance challenge.

Let’s collaborate to drive meaningful industry evolution, where safety and sustainable growth go hand in hand.
