HELEN – Authorities have released the names of the two people killed in a double shooting in Helen Sunday afternoon. White County Deputy Coroner James Etheridge has identified the victims as 18-year-old Karly Nicole Patterson and 20-year-old Kyle Lee Kerr. Helen Police Chief Ted Ray released limited information on the incident Sunday evening.

“We responded to a call of gunshots and, upon arrival, we found the victim that appeared to be deceased at the scene, and then there was a second individual that was transported to Northeast Georgia [Medical Center] for care,” Ray said. White County Coroner Ricky Barrett said Sunday night the second shooting victim died at the hospital.

“It appeared to be a domestic-related type of situation, just involving the two individuals,” Ray said. “The subject did not live there today, but he had a relationship with the female who did reside there.”

Barrett said autopsies on both Kerr and Patterson are pending at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's State Crime Lab in Decatur. The incident happened at a residence behind The Hayloft in Helen, and across Highway 75 from Helen City Hall and the Helen Police Department. White County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded with Helen police “because we didn’t know what all was going on initially,” Ray said. “They backed up the city police officers.”
