I know you will not find this research surprising, however, I still think it’s important to highlight studies that show the impact of ultra-processed foods on health outcomes.

This recent study found that cutting 20% of sugar from packaged foods and 40% from beverages could prevent 2.4 million cardiovascular disease events, 490,000 cardiovascular events, and over 700,000 cases of diabetes in the US.

This is massive for what I believe to be small changes. If we reduce our sugar consumption, we can dramatically shift the amount of chronic disease experienced in this country.

Chiropractic care is becoming much more popular. People are not only going to see a chiropractor for back injuries, but also going for regular care. They’re even taking their newborn babies.

Seeing a chiropractor regularly means every 4-6 weeks depending on your chiropractor’s suggestion. At first you will need to go 2-3 times for about 2 weeks in order to get your body aligned, and after that you continue to go regularly for maintenance or if there is an issue.

Chiropractors tend to look at the whole person when they come in to be treated. They do not simply attempt to fix the symptoms of a problem. They improve nervous system integrity, work to reduce causes of nerve interference, and prom\ote proper bodily function. This all works together to treat the patient as a whole and allow their body to work properly in order to be restored to maximum health. Our bodies rely heavily on our central nervous system and if that is being compromised by a misalignment, it can cause a number of issues.

As children are growing and changing so quickly, it is especially important that they received chiropractic care regularly.

Kids and ear infections go hand in hand, right? But is that normal? Along with allergies and asthma, rates have increased in recent decades due to environmental and dietary factors.⁠

90% of kids will have one by age 5, up to 40% will have recurrent ear infections lasting for 3 months, with 10% lasting up to a year. They’re the most common reason for doctor visits and antibiotics.⁠

Recurrent ear infections and antibiotics (or surgery!) do not have to be part of childhood, and avoiding antibiotic overuse is important for gut and general health. Ear infections are a head’s up that your child’s immunity needs some TLC.⁠

What can you do? While most MDs will say there’s nothing you can do, both the research, and 36 years of experience, tell me otherwise. Here are steps you can take to support your child’s immunity and prevent ear infections:⁠

🔸 Breastfeed: Breastfed babies are at least half as likely as their formula-fed cohorts to get ear infections, so if you’re able to, go for it for at least 6 months.⁠

🔸 Avoid fruit juices + dairy: Dairy encourages the production of mucus and inflammation; sugar depresses immune function. (see my article https://avivaromm.com/need-milk-probably-not/)⁠

🔸 Nip colds in the bud: Ear infections are generally preceded by cold symptoms, especially runny noses, so head off early symptoms with the right foods, herbs, and supplements.⁠

🔸 Healthy Diet: The immune system requires nutritional building blocks including protein, good quality fats, and plenty of important vitamins and minerals. Further, junk foods and sugar tax the immune system and use up vital nutrients. I know feeding kids well – and getting them to eat well – are two totally different things!⁠

🔸 A kid’s multivitamin with zinc, vitamin D (400-800 units of D3 daily) and a probiotic daily have been shown to prevent ear infections, while the addition of Vitamin C (250-500 mg) daily can prevent colds as well.⁠
