Reminder to my horse peeps...blankets/sheets can create stiffness and pressure points on your horse's body. Don't get me wrong, blankets/sheets are awesome - my horses have wardrobes! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

How can you reduce the discomfort? Do your best to adjust the blankets/sheets everyday. I like to adjust them while my babies are eating their meals. If you can, remove blankets/sheets every other day and do a thorough lookey loo over your horse for rubs, cuts, etc. If possible, swap blankets/sheets, even if the weight/fill is the same. Each blanket/sheet will have different pressure points and can relieve soreness in this areas from the previous blanket/sheet.

AND...remember to keep your horse's massage therapy and adjustments going through the cold months. Preventative care throughout the Winter can help reduce issues when preparing for Spring activity!

Enjoy this holiday weekend with your unicorn πŸ¦„ πŸ₯°

So we have the pleasure of caring for a newbie at the homestead. It's always an exciting and anxious time integrating new ones into the herd. This little guy is doing well, and we adore him. πŸ₯°

Hello horse pals! GQS hopes you are having a great week and looking forward to your weekend.

A wonderful equestrian we keep up with across the pond had quite a fright with her beloved horse recently. A benign growth that has been near his intestines took the plunge and strangulated a section of intestine, resulting in emergency surgery. This wonderful equestrian knows her horse, right down to how he likes to have his meals laid out before him. She knew something wasn't right and wasted no time contacting her vet. Great news, because if her swift action and an amazing veterinary team, her amazing partner is recovering well!

Many of us have experienced emergencies with our beloved unicorns πŸ¦„, and it is important to remember that YOU KNOW YOUR HORSE...their personality, even right down to how they prefer to eat or drink! "Going with your gut" is important - if your beloved seems off, trust your instinct...call the vet. Better to spend the vet fee, and hear all is okay, than to potentially lose your horse.

If you are just learning or have your first horse, learn all you can from your vet. Having a client that can share details and provide important initial information can help them have a better picture of the situation as they make their way to help.

Stay strong fellow horse pals!

About Susan...

Gentle and Quiet Spirit Horse Massage was founded out of an appreciation for non-invasive therapy options for horses. Not only with the intent to support recovery from injury, but to provide relaxation, relieve discomfort, and improve the overall wellness of the horse.

Susan is a life-long horse person and equestrian. From an early age, horses became a prominent part of her upbringing. Appaloosas and quarter horses started her journey, with many other breeds touching her heart and expanding her knowledge of the variances in overall training, disciplines, and care that make each unique.

Riding and training in a multiple disciplines for many years, she values what each horse is capable of, whether as a companion horse, lesson horse or school master, pleasure horse or an avid competitor. Connecting with horses makes us better human beings.
