Forward fold, or uttanasana, has incredible benefits for the body and mind - calming, streches hips/hamstrings/calves while strengthening thighs and knees.

Beginners Tip:

As a beginner, it might be hard to increase the stretch. To make it easier, gently bend your knees, and imagine the sacrum sinking deep into the back part of the pelvis. Now, decrease the distance between your tailbone and the p***s. As you feel the resistance, push the top part of your thighs back and press your heels down. Straighten your knees. But be sure you don’t lock your knees when you straighten them.

Modifications: -Place yoga blocks under the hands.

Additional benefits: -This bend gives your digestive organs a good massage, thereby improving digestion.
-Relieves tension in the spine, neck, and back.
-Activates the abdominal muscles.
-Therapeutic for infertility, osteoporosis, and sinusitis.

This is a conversation I have with my workout family ALL OF THE TIME!

Apart of being a yogi is mindfulness. The ability to BE HERE NOW! Accepting and being thankful for the present.

There is nothing wrong with wanting better for ourselves but at some point we MUST acknowledge where we started vs where you are.

We may not be where we want to be but we DEFINITELY aren’t where we started!

MOMENT OF TRANSPARENCY!!?

I left the house this morning without eating. I’m out and about in these Atlanta Skreetz and I’m starving!

I pull up at Publix and get in the hot food line cuz at this point eating healthy is out the window…I just need FOOD!!

I’m waiting patiently cuz I’m next and this lady comes to get in line and ask me “Are you in line”

For me that meant I would have to voice out loud that I’m CHOOSING to not offer myself the best. So instead I got out of line and got some fruit.

For me, giving my body what it needs as opposed to what it wants in terms of food is an every meal challenge because I am a true foodie!

I’m proud to say today my flesh lost the battle!

We’ve all heard the saying GOOD VIBES ONLY!! Although that’s what we really desire…unfortunately that’s not humanly possible.

Life will have its twist and turns; whether we want them or not.

The one thing we can TRY to do is STAY GROUNDED!

A couple of things I do to TRY to stay grounded(I capitalize TRY because it is not easy and sometimes I fail at it):
1. Breath work
2. Yoga
3. Meditation
4. Eating live foods
5. Sunlight

In this life if you don’t find what works for you to stay grounded life will get the best of you.

Join me every Sunday at 10am at .etcatl for some grounding using breath work and yoga. Take this hour to shut the world out and concentrate on yourself!!
