One year ago, 33 year old Tiatanna became the first person in the U.S. to receive the BrioVAD, a next - generation heart assist device implanted at Emory Healthcare.

After months of severe shortness of breath and no answers, Tiatanna turned to Emory - where Dr. Mani Daneshmand and the Heart Failure & Transplant teams identified her as the ideal candidate for this groundbreaking device.

The BrioVAD, developed by BrioHealth Solutions, is a smaller, fully magnetically levitated ventricular assist device designed to improve safety and quality of life. It offers new hope as a long-term support option or a bridge to transplant.

Today, Tiatanna is thriving and giving back. She’s launched a nonprofit to support others living with VADs and wants people to see this device as a new beginning.

Read her full story to learn about her journey, how the BrioVAD works, and what this innovation could mean for future patients.

Emory Healthcare celebrates patient Tiatanna's one-year milestone since she became the first person in the U.S. to have a BrioVAD device surgically implanted for heart failure.
