This year, I think, affected everyone a little differently. For some people, it was financial hardships. Others, it was the loss of a job or new protocols set into place in order to perform their duty. Many people became sick. Some struggled emotionally and mentally. Lives were lost in some cases. Everywhere you look, each person struggled with something during the year 2020.

We all have a different story for the year 2020. We have all suffered in some way; maybe even felt defeated, abandoned, alone, closed off to the world – “quarantined.” We ALL had 2020 mountains to climb. For some of us, that mountain may have led us, at times, to the point of even wanting to give up.

You do not have to go through the difficulties alone.

YOUR LIFE MATTERS! YOU MATTER!

See, here's the thing we tend to forget.... we can't change other people. Not their behavior. Not their habits. Not what they say or how they say it. Not their facial expressions. We can't change their feelings about themselves or about us.

People see what they want to see. They hear what they want to hear. They remember what they want to remember the way they want to remember it - true or not.

BUT... what we can change is OURSELVES. We can change our own habits, behaviors, emotions. We can change our own thoughts and feelings.... about others, and most importantly, about ourselves.

I think that is the hardest part in self-growth and self-improvement... changing how we feel and think about ourselves. It's not as easy as one would think - at times, even expect - to change how we see ourselves...our self-worth, our self-value.

The world makes it even harder for us to see our own worth and value. We live in a society where it's become the norm and acceptable to treat others unkindly, to point out every flaw and failure, to call each other names that leave wounds deeply rooted inside us.

When you're surrounded by people who are constantly telling you that what you do and say, that who you are, is not enough, it becomes almost impossible to see our TRUE self-worth and self-value.

Sometimes, we may even reach a breaking point. Finding ourselves asking the questions, "Why even try when it is never good enough anyways?" "Why continue to better myself when someone is just going to pull me back down?"

BUT, MY FRIEND, HEAR THIS NOW!

I've discovered a few things through this time in my life.

For example, did you know people actually can change?

It's true.

Some of us... okay most of us... okay, me... hold on to things from our past that keep us from moving on with our life. Old rivalries. Jealousies. Disappointments. Sometimes, even things that are just too painful to remember at all.

But maybe, life is about forgiving. Forgiving each other. Forgiving ourselves.

Just maybe, the only thing that is really and truly important is WHERE WE ARE NOW. Friends and family, old and new. People we love. Cherishing memories we have and making new ones to share together.

So, my gift to you is to share this one thought...

REMEMBER YOUR PAST BECAUSE IT IS WHAT BROUGHT YOU HERE! DON'T BE AFRAID TO EMBRACE THE PRESENT. Because if you live in it with hope, kindness, and love, it's a great place to be.
