Senate Bill 277 is probably the most important piece of legislation for the recovery community in Georgia this year.

Currently, Georgia law does not consider Alcohol Use Disorder a treatable primary diagnosis. This means it is currently ILLEGAL for any licensed professional or treatment facility to treat someone for primary AUD. In many cases this can be circumvented because many alcoholics also have co-occurring Substance Use Disorders or mental health conditions which can be treated as primary conditions (and the AUD as secondary), but anyone who doesn't have a co-occurring condition technically cannot legally be treated in Georgia.

This law would change this abysmal situation and allow the treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder as a primary diagnosis.
