Widow Wings

Widow Wings Sundays at 8:00 P.M. we offer a chat line for women to talk with other widows. It has been a life changing adjustment. It is a place to just be.

Widow Wings is a support group in the Atlanta area that provides a safe space for widows to share their experiences of rebuilding their lives after the lost of their partners. On March 24, 2014, my dear husband Carlos took his last breath and my heart was broken. For over 34 years, I shared my life with this man who was my everything,,,, my husband, my best friend, my counselor and the place where I landed after a difficult day. Living without him has proven to be the greatest challenge I have had to face. I have cried a river, spent many sleepless nights and prayed like I have never prayed before. I started Widow Wings because I felt there were other women who may have found themselves in the place that I was. I thought that other widows may, like me, want a place where we did not have to pretend but could talk freely about the transition to widowhood. And not only that but to learn how to move forward in our lives, giving thanks for the past and the hope for the future.. So out of my feelings, pain, struggle and love came Widow Wings.

It is said that a person is not dead as long as his/her name is spoken and they remain in the memories of others. How are you keeping your Beloved alive?

Have you ever looked back over your life and realized there were relatives and other women you knew who were widows. I thought of that today as I visited my maternal grandmother's grave, realizing she was a widow in her thirties with three young children to raise. She remarried, but the pain of being a widow, I am sure, was part of her life and not easily forgotten. Other women in my family were widows. Their stories are compelling and show strength in the face of loss. Think of widows you know and realize that we, too, can follow their example of resilience and continue living extraordinary lives. It is up to us.
