This is great news for the many waiting for a kidney. We have been following this study for years now as they told us about it when Mike went in the transplant list. Praying the recipient does well and more people will benefit from all of this.

Doctors have performed the first transplant of a genetically modified kidney from a pig into a living human, they announced Thursday.

We are still searching for a living donor. Mike has been on the transplant list for 4 years now. He started dialysis in September of 2023. As many know this is just a temporary fix u til we can get a deceased kidney or a living donor. If you are interested please go to the website on the card and fill out the questionnaire. It’s important that we find a kidney so Mike can get back to regular activities and be able to enjoy his grandchildren, family, friends & traveling.

Mike was diagnosed with IGA nephropathy in his 20s. This is irreversible and incurable in leads to kidney failure. Mike is at that point in his life as he has had to start dialysis this past week. Mike’s grandfather passed away from the same thing.

This is not an easy thing to write about but we know without getting the word out to trends in family. He may not find a living donor. We are looking for a living donor and hoping someone will see this and be willing to help Mike out.

Mike is a great dad/husband/son/friend/coworker/role model to many. Mike spent many years helping others through his work and has met many people that he has come in contact with. Mike had three options up until this past week.
1. A kidney from a deceased donor (3-5 yr wait)
2. A living donor (the best option)
3. Dialysis
Unfortunately, Mike had to start dialysis and this is only a temporary solution, time consuming, and can be physically exhausting. Mike has to follow a strict diet and watch his fluid intake. Mike needs a new kidney and we hope someone is willing to consider being tested to see if you are a match. Mike’s blood type is O positive. Unfortunately the doctors don’t seek out a kidney or a donor for the patients, that is up to the family and friends to come together and ask for your help.

Some information about kidney donation: You only need one kidney to live a healthy life. The recovery period after donating is fairly quick (aprx 2 weeks), being a donor is covered by Medicare, so no cost to you. You’ll also be followed by a team of specialists at the transplant center and they will help you understand the whole process and get you through it. You can learn more about being a living donor at kidney.org/livingdonation
Please share our story so we can get the word out and hope someone will consider donating and be a match. Any questions please contact me via phone, private Facebook message or email me at
Jodilpn2012@yahoo.com
You can go to upstate.donorscreen.org or scan the QR code pictured on this post for the health questionnaire. If you are not a match for Mike, you may be a match for someone else and that person may have a match for Mike and they call that a donor swap.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read this sharing this and considering being a donor for Mike.

Kidney disease is known as the “silent killer” because it often has no obvious early symptoms. It is estimated that up to 90 percent of people in the United States with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are completely unaware they have the disease until it is very advanced.

As kidney disease progresses, it can lead to kidney failure, requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant. It can also result in other serious health issues, including a heart attack or stroke.

We have developed this page to help get the word out and help educate some about being a living donor.
Mike is in need of a kidney and has been on the transplant list for 3 years now. So with time passing by we have decided to reach out and try to find a living donor match.
If you are interested in learning more please follow along on our journey or you can visit the website on the donor card. You can also call the upstate transplant center at 315-464-5413.
We would forever be grateful if anyone would be interested in seeing if you are a match.

If you are not a match they have other types of lists where a match could possibly be found through a swap list.
