This evening felt different, things felt somber. I took a walk after dinner and watched the sunset. Sitting silently listening and watching the waves crash.

My client’s spouse reached out to me. My client had unexpectedly and very suddenly passed away this day.

The longer you work with a client the more in-tune you become to their bodies. You learn their stories said and unsaid. You learn their (fur) babies names. You talk about their life adventures, friends, partners, and hobbies. You also are with them in times of complete stillness and silence.

My heart goes out to his family. ❤️ You will always be remembered. I will cherish the time I got to bring you peace and healing. Rest easy my friend.

Started the year off right with a (birthday) hike with friends! I can honestly say I would’ve never imagined hiking in January, but here we are. Anywho, hope everyone had a happy and safe new year!

End of next month it will have been about a year ago that I had blood work done and my A1C result came back in the pre-diabetic range. I asked my NP if I should see a nutritionist or what I should do. Her response was shocking. She said I shouldn’t worry about it that most Americans are pre-diabetic.

Not being remotely satisfied with that answer, I made drastic diet changes immediately. I was scared of every carb. I went to the extreme. It took time and education to understand better food decisions. I am no expert, but these are the changes I made:

1) Veggies (above ground), and complex carbs are key. Your body and brain need good fats to function. If you can go organic, even better.

2) I still indulge in my cravings. If I didn’t I WOULD fail without question. It’s all about moderation. You can take it a step further and find a healthy alternative.

3) I start my day with fiber and greens. Fiber helps you maintain a healthy blood sugar.

4) Sleep and mental health were a huge factor. I was dealing with chronic insomnia and anxiety. Ask for help when you need it! Get into nature. Set up a sleep routine.

5) Last but never least, exercise. I needed an extra push and .for.this.fitness helped me get back into the gym and motivated.

I got my A1C re-tested three months later and I was within a normal range. Lasting changes take time and hard work.
