The main finding of recent research from JAMA is extremely promising for early intervention OT professionals.

⭐️ In the study, greater intensity of early intervention service was associated with better functional gains. ⭐️

But, there’s a problem.

Federal spending per child on early intervention services has declined over the past decade. And, in this climate of tightening budgets, most children in the study had:

❌Delayed care, and
❌Low service intensity.

I truly believe that people don’t know what OT is, because we have made OT hard to find.

This week on the podcast, we welcome Kavitha Murthi, MS (OT), OTR, FHEA (UK). She is the lead author on an article that will help you identify the components of strengths-based practice for autistic people.

As you’ll hear, a strengths-based approach is more than the subject of her research. It is a worldview that permeates her life story.

This is an episode we all need to sit with.

We begin by reviewing an article on racism and occupation.

Then, I am honored that the hosts of one of my favorite podcasts (The Dr. thOTs Podcast) agreed to takeover the discussion portion. The Dr. thOTs hosts, Khalilah R. Johnson, PhD, MS, OTR/L and Ryan Lavalley are also the authors of the article we review.
