When someone living with dementia doesn't respond to what you're saying, it's often not ignoring you-dementia can disrupt how the brain processes language.

Repeating louder or faster doesn't help-speaking slowly, simply, and reducing distractions does.

When someone living with dementia can't follow multi-step instructions, it's not defiance, dementia affects sequencing, the brain's ability to hold and follow steps in order.

Instead of telling someone living with dementia "it's time to exercise," try embedding movement into meaningful tasks.

"Can you help me mix this?" becomes balance and arm strengthening. "What do you think of these plants?" becomes walking and engagement.

The brain responds better to purpose than commands. Movement wrapped in meaning is always easier than "exercise" as a concept. 💛

When a person living with dementia isn’t changing their clothes, it can be uncomfortable and confusing to navigate as a caregiver.
Often, this isn’t stubbornness or refusal.

Dementia can affect awareness, task initiation, and how modesty is experienced. Being asked to change clothes or helped with something they’ve done independently their whole life can feel intrusive or unnecessary to the brain.

If you’ve ever felt unsure how to handle this, you’re not alone.
You’re balancing hygiene, dignity, and lifelong identity, and that’s not easy.

💌 I share quick weekly dementia caregiving tips to help you navigate moments like this.

Leaving an appointment with a million “next steps” in your head is a lot.

Follow-ups. Med changes. Referrals. Calls. Trying to remember what they even said.

One of the reasons Innerhive was created was to help with this! With permission, you can record the convo, and it creates a summary + pulls out the action items for you. 🙌

If you want to check it out, comment INNER and I’ll send the link.

Incontinence-related skin irritation is common, and it can start quickly when moisture + irritants sit on the skin.
Two things that can help promote skin health
A product that pulls moisture into the core (like these Tranquility products with pH neutralization)

A simple toileting/check schedule: every 2–3 hours, do a quick check + change if needed (based on safety + abilities)

Comment YES and I’ll send the link so you can explore and find the best fit.

When the person living with dementia doesn’t recognize someone they love, it’s often due to changes in the temporal lobe- the part of the brain involved in recognizing faces, voices, and familiar memories.

This can be one of the hardest moments for caregivers.

But here's something that you should know–Connection doesn’t depend on names.
It lives in presence and connection 🙂
