Happy Valentine’s Day!

Along with celebrating the romance in my life, I am so fortunate to celebrate Valentine’s Day by appreciating all the love including from my two wonderful daughters and all the other families and babies in my life.

Yesterday I saw a family whose 3-month-old had been refusing a bottle for a month.

Mom had already gone back to work, and they were desperate for baby to take a bottle while in the care of family.

They tried everything:
3-4 different bottles, a dry ni**le, oral motor exercises, changing the temperature, freshly pumped milk…
They had multiple visits with a lactation consultant.
And they just couldn’t make forward progress.

So they came to me. 🤍

And I wish I could say I waved a magic wand and made it happen ✨

But the truth is — the family and their previous providers had already built a foundation that was ready for me to expand on.

This family was willing to put in the work.
They were ready to follow a clear care plan.
They were ready to be consistent.

I used years of specialized training in infant development and feeding to identify the right tools and small but powerful tweaks — meeting this baby and family exactly where they were.

And here’s the part that matters most:
When they came to me, they were already so close to success.
They just didn’t know it yet.

The solution to prolonged bottle refusal is rarely “try a different bottle.” 🍼

It comes from understanding the underlying reason behind the refusal —
and supporting those pieces first.

It’s helping a family regulate their nervous system.
It’s creating an individualized plan that meets the family and the baby where they are at.
It’s knowing why follow-through and follow-up matter.
