The ayahuasca vine, also known as Banisteriopsis caapi, grows deep in the rainforest, winding its way upward by embracing the trunks of tall trees. On its own, it does not rise far. It needs the strength and structure of another being to climb toward the light. The tree does not become the vine, and the vine does not become the tree. Yet together, they reach the canopy.
When the vine is harvested for ceremony, it is not uprooted. The root remains in the Earth. The life force remains intact. It is the growth that is cut, the reaching tendrils that are offered, while the source stays grounded and alive. And so it grows again, and again, and again.
We, too, need support to rise. We lean on elders, community, love, and Spirit to help us climb toward our own light. And when life prunes us, when parts of us are cut back through challenge or initiation, if our roots remain untouched, we continue to grow 🌱
