We hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving! We know the holidays can be tough sometimes for folks who live with diabetes so we wanted to send everyone a quick reminder.

When blood sugar stays high for too long, it can quietly affect nearly every part of your body — from your eyes and nerves to your heart and kidneys.

If you’re noticing increased thirst, frequent urination, extreme fatigue, blurred vision, or slow-healing cuts, it may be a sign your diabetes is not well controlled.

Our latest blog walks through common warning signs, what can cause blood sugar to rise, and how to get back on track. Read more on our website and reach out if you’re concerned about your numbers 💙

Learn the warning signs of uncontrolled diabetes—like thirst, fatigue, and blurred vision—and when to seek care. Texas Diabetes & Endocrinology can help.

Meet Maria Gomez 🌟

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on one of our incredible team members, Maria, our Triage Medical Assistant based in the South Austin office. Maria works alongside Dr. Harrison, Rachel Kohls, and Brandy Wellmon to ensure every patient feels cared for and supported.

✨ Outside the office, Maria enjoys baking (especially cakes!), traveling with her family, and going to concerts. “I love making memories through good food, music, and adventures together,” she says.

💛 At work, Maria focuses on making every patient feel valued and comfortable. “I take the time to listen to their concerns, explain things in a way they can understand, and follow up promptly so they know we care. A respectful approach helps build trust and makes their experience more positive.”

💬 Her top advice for patients: “Come prepared with questions and be honest about your symptoms and lifestyle. Sharing your full medical history and medications helps us provide the best possible care.”

We’re so grateful for Maria’s kindness, dedication, and the positive energy she brings to our team every day!

We’re proud to have our very own Dr. Blevins featured in the article “5 Things To Know About Inhaled Insulin” by diaTribe. The piece highlights key insights into how inhaled insulin (such as Afrezza) is used, and Dr. Blevins shares his expert take on dosing.

💡 Some highlights from the article:
Inhaled insulin acts very quickly, working within minutes, peaking around 12-15 minutes, and being largely out of the system in 1.5 – 3 hours.

Dr. Blevins notes that when switching from rapid-acting injected insulin to Afrezza, “the required dose … is roughly equivalent to 2.5 to 3 times the amount of injected rapid-acting insulin.”

Important safety considerations: inhaled insulin is not recommended for people with chronic lung disease or who smoke or recently smoked.

Congratulations again to Dr. Blevins 👏
