Mobility work=massage+stretch
This client has been diligently working on correcting movement patterns that arose with a right knee MCL/ACL surgery some years ago.
We troubleshot some things he can do to keep working on a lunge, particularly with a lot of travel coming up. Simple things like using a massage gun as well as groin and IT band stretches before doing a lunge.
You can see his body trying to take weight off his right knee in the initial photo and then how it equals out by the end.
The knee, a door-hinge-joint, often has multiple layers of compensation playing into chronic pain patterns. It’s flanked by some really mobile joints, the ankle and the hip below and above it. The ankle/hip on same side can jump in to help and I often see the left inner thigh tighten up to take the load off.
