I attended the sweetest most powerful born-day today. So I’m lighting a candle and having some birthday cake 🎂 Mama ROCKED her birth and daddy was an incredible support. There was faith in and respect for the physiological process of birth. As it unfolded there were ebbs and flows, ups and downs, determination and most of all love. It was an honor to be in the birthing space with this very special family. And it was a dream to work beside the amazing midwives, and Lena (who’s IG I don’t have!). Thank you for allowing me to partner with you as doulas for this family. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the work I get to do. 🙏🏼💕

In the waiting room giving mom and dad some restful space after some hard labor work by mom. Love watching couples work as a team in labor. The way a partner looks at the laboring person with wonder, empathy and respect. Labor is hard work. I’m so lucky to get to share space with families while they bring their littles into the world. I’m feeling very humbled and grateful. And this plastic couch I’m sitting on sounds like a toot every time I move so there’s that too lol.

Happy World Breastfeeding Month! We all know breast milk is amazing. This month we honor all breastfeeding journeys, no matter how long or short yours was or is. It’s a huge commitment to breastfeed and it can definitely present its challenges. The number one reason why women quit within the first several weeks is due to lack of knowledge and support. There’s a learning curve for you and your baby. It can make all the difference having an experienced support person like a doula to help you navigate those first few weeks.

Had the absolute honor and privilege to learn about the history, cultural significance and uses of the Rebozo as it pertains to birth and postpartum this past weekend. I attended an intimate workshop led by the incredible Irasema “Iris” Reza Bailey, who learned these techniques from her aunt. These practices are sacred and passed down in the oral tradition. Although similar techniques are widely used to aid in comfort measures for birthing people, the Rebozo’s uses extend far beyond that for the indigenous culture of its origin. Iris is massage therapist and energy worker who’s knowledge is based in traditional Mexican healing. She is based in South Austin and I would highly recommend her services to any birthing or non-birthing people! @ Austin, Texas

The Third Eye is a reference to human consciousness, intuition, clairvoyance and spiritual power. Behind the skull, above and between the eyes is the point referred to as the Third Eye or the Pineal Gland. The Pineal Gland is a vital hormonal gland which regulates bodily cycles and stimulates the production of many hormones in our bodies.
The French philosopher Rene Descarte believed that the Third Eye was the point where the mind and body met.
Birth is a mind-body experience. Birthing people often go to a mental space many call “labor land” where they seem to drift between two worlds. Time may seem to stand still for the laboring person as they go into their body and surrender to the process of labor. The mind is as much a part of labor as the body. Sometimes we may need help getting out of our minds and into our bodies when we are in the midst of such an intense experience as labor. Having a doula present to help ground you, give you emotional and physical support and remind you of the strength you have can help create a positive birth experience. Artwork used with permission.

It’s about time I make a post and start this doula engine. Let me introduce myself. My name is Katie and I’m a birth nerd. A friend introduced me to the film, The Business if Being Born and that propelled me into the birth world. I was captivated by the strength of the birthing people in the film and I couldn’t get enough. I started reading and watching anything birth related that I could get my hands on. I innately knew that through birthing my children, I too would be born. I continue to be reborn every day I spend with them, as parenting is the greatest and most rewarding challenge.

I birthed my children on my terms with the support of amazing midwives and doulas and my badass husband. The strength I learned I had in making these decisions surrounding my births carries me through life’s challenges and I call on those memories to guide me. I listen to my intuition as I did in birth. I surround myself with people who love me and support me as I did in birth. I was transformed and I hope I’ll always be evolving and changing. This was the gift my births gave me and the gift my family gives me every day. The opportunity to grow, to learn, to be strong, to ask for support, to be reflective, to move forward in life as consciously as possible.

I am so excited to support birthing people and their families as a doula in Austin, TX. I want to help you create a conscious path to birth and beyond!
