History of the AADOM Austin Chapter:
Over fifteen years ago, Janetkay Gurganus who is our founder, discovered the American Association of Dental Office Managers online. She reached out to other office managers she knew and had worked with and asked if they might be interested in participating. Our first meetings were very informal, we met for lunch or Happy Hour and mainly shared experiences. But, she noticed that there were certain issues we each were struggling with and sought out speakers and consultants to help solve these issues. From the beginning she was very fortunate to have her employer, Jason Duggan, sponsor the group. He understood the value of the group and the benefit it would be to their individual growth and the practices they worked with. Over the years we have grown, formed a steering committee made up of most of the original core group that first met, and become the first official Austin Chapter of the American Association of Dental Office Managers. This was granted after Janetkay completed the AADOM Ambassador training at the San Diego National Meeting in 2014. We meet 5 times a year, four of these are educational and the final one is always a Holiday Celebration. In order to become a member of our local chapter, you have to be a member of AADOM. You can earn CEs for attending and these can be applied towards earning the title of Fellow in AADOM. We are one of the largest chapters in the United States. Our chapter was named the 2016 Chapter of the Year the first year that designation began and has been in the top three every year since.
