It’s time to get into the holiday spirit. Time to officially show gratitude and love for all the good people in your life.

But did you know that Christ was not born on December 25th? So why do we celebrate Christmas on December 25th?

The reason for the choice of December 25 goes back to an ancient belief that prophets died on the same date they were conceived.
Believing Jesus died on March 25, early theologians pinpointed that as the date of the annunciation, when Mary was told she would have the baby.

December 25 is nine months after that and was, therefore, chosen as the birth date.

I remember being shocked that Christ wasn’t born on Christmas Day. After all, in church, our pastor always spoke of Jesus being born on Christmas Day as we lit our candles at midnight. Now I know that Christmas Day is symbolic to celebrate the birth of Christ and embody all the good things in life. Think about how many times you celebrate your birthday on a different day!

I love that people of many different faiths around the world embrace Christmas as a time of loving, giving, and thanking. Christmas is a happy time for young and old.

I love any reason to celebrate life, and holidays are the perfect reason to be joyful and count your blessings.

So as we go into the Christmas week, put aside the stresses of life, and soak in the spirit of Christmas. May these good feelings fill your heart and soul every day of the year!

Learn from other people’s mistakes. Learn from other’s experiences. Why reinvent the wheel each time? You can get up to learning curve faster by having a mentor, by reading, by talking to people who have been through what you’re going through.

This can apply to your personal and professional life. I can’t tell you how many times a conversation with a friend has helped me gain perspective on a difficult situation, including when I was going through a very contentious custody battle. By the same token, talking to my business and professional colleagues has helped me improve my practice and learn better ways to care for patients as well as grow my businesses.

Don’t go at it alone. Hindsight is 20/20 so make someone else’s hindsight your foresight.

Why do we eat so much more during the holidays? Maybe because there are cookies, cakes, and candies everywhere! Bringing sweets is like bringing cheer when visiting friends, family and business colleagues. Our office ends up becoming a dessert buffet during the holidays!

As animals, we see food, we eat food, it’s as simple as that. We are also programmed to eat more when the weather is cold to put on more fat to keep us warm in the winter. So you need to turn on your non-primitive brain 🧠 when you walk by a box full of chocolates to avoid putting on extra pounds during the holidays.

Also kick up your workouts a notch during the holidays to curb your appetite. Harder workouts tend to temporarily suppress your appetite while low-to-moderate exercise can make you feel hungry quickly.

So enjoy the holidays, but enjoy the holiday treats in moderation, and invite all your muscles to the party!

During gift giving season it makes me reflect upon what are the real gifts in my life. Undoubtedly my friends and family, and my patients are my greatest gifts.

There is nothing that can replace the love and joy that I experience from the endearing relationships that I have with the people who are close to me in my life.

My god daughter is one of the greatest gifts 🎁 that I have ever received. She chose me to be her god mother even though her parents had put forward other women who are very important in her life. Last year Ellie told me, “The good thing about being baptized when you’re older, is that you get to choose your own godmother.!” How great is that?

I am so blessed to be the chosen recipient of a child’s pure love and affection. To be joined forever in a holy union that is so special that it fills my soul with so much appreciation and happiness every time I think of her.

I wish you all the joys of the season, and hope that you are surrounded by many gifts 🎁 as I am.

Have your kids ever told you, “I will never use what I learn in school”? Have you ever thought this yourself?

Often times our kids will tell us that what they learn in school is useless, but I found that I have ended up using almost everything that I learned at one time or another. Even subjects that I thought were superfluous came in handy at some point in my life!

I teach my son to learn as much as he can every day. Knowledge is definitely is power and knowledge can save you. Nobody can take knowledge away from you so bank as much of it as you can.

There Is a strong relationship between vision and learning. Children should have their vision checked not only to make sure they can see the board, but also to make sure their ability to track, focus and coordinate their eyes is working well to input and process visual information. Developmental Optometrists check these skills as well as visual perception. Www.HollywoodVision.com

Families come in many shapes and forms. Ultimately family is someone who stands by your side and loves you unconditionally.

A family can consist of more than your spouse and children. A family can be close friends who know your strengths and weaknesses, has seen you at your best as well as at your worst, but who love you no matter what.

Daily challenges are part of being a family. Disagreements, and even squabbles are part of being a family. Don’t think for once that the rich and famous, the “beautiful people”, or the royal family does not have their hurtful or embarrassing moments. We are not perfect, so neither are the families that we are a part of.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about your family’s idiosyncrasies. In fact, embrace your family’s uniqueness and ability to come back together as a family and love each other despite all the challenges that sometimes tear you apart. The movie, “The Adams Family” resonated with me on a humorous level for these reasons.

We all have our moments as a family, but in the end, love trumps all. I love my family, my extended family, and all our very close friends who we consider “family” as well. Just food for thought as you return home from visiting your family.

You are your best investment. If you are well, then you can achieve so much more success life including wealth and happiness.

Before you spend a lot of money buying “stuff”, put your money where you will get the most bang for your buck, YOURSELF!

Don’t skimp on investing in yourself in the following areas:
👁 Healthcare
📚 Education
đŸ‹ïžâ€â™€ïž Fitness
🙏 Spitituality

As a doctor, I am often surprised to see how much people are willing to spend on clothes, purses, jewelry, travel, cars, make up etc., but are unwilling to spend on healthcare to take care of themselves. Insurance does NOT pay for everything, so don’t get just what your insurance covers 😠 because you are cheating yourself out of what’s best for you and what you really need.

Investing in yourself will bring you the highest return on investment!

You know the saying, “Money can’t buy happiness.” No matter what you have, or how much you have, it means nothing if you’re not happy with who you are, or what you do.

Unfortunately, I have known many people who live glamorous lives, and seem to have everything, but they are miserable. It doesn’t matter if they are famous, wealthy, or gorgeous. If they aren’t happy with who they are, they often live a life of quiet desperation asking themselves, “Why am I miserable when I have “everything”?

Some people seek accolades or popularity to fill a void or to give themselves affirmation that “If other people like me, I will like myself.” A million likes, or a billion fans rarely fills the void.

From my humble life experience, this has helped me be comfortable in my own skin:

đŸ„° Help your children, and yourself develop self confidence and self like
đŸ§˜đŸœâ€â™‚ïž Spend time with yourself and your own thoughts to really get to know yourself, and to work on yourself
💗 Learn to like yourself with all your flaws (and strengths)
📖 Learn to entertain yourself and enjoy alone time
📆 Don’t over fill your schedule
đŸ‘©đŸ»â€âš•ïž Find joy in your everyday life and work
😊 Self sufficiency leads to confidence and happiness

Love yourself, and you will love your life 💗

Here’s to your health!

Take the time to focus. Not just in vision but in life. What you focus on is what happens. Focus on where you want to go not where you don’t want to go. Take time to assess what your goals are so your focus is on the important things.
