Texas student earned several awards at in Los Angeles! Caitlyn Lucore, Chair-Elect of Texas Pharmacy Association - Students, was named the 2026 APhA Good Government Student Pharmacist-of-the-Year. Her school, the UTEP School of Pharmacy, received the APhA-ASP National Chapter Policy and Legislative Award. Finally, the University of Houston College of Pharmacy took home the National Chapter Professionalism Award. Congratulations to all of these young leaders who are already doing so much to elevate the profession and advance the practice of !

The Texas Tribune is shining a light on just how challenging it is for independent to stay afloat, in large part due to the practices of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). Every that closes potentially exacerbates the problem of pharmacy deserts in Texas.

TPA member and Crystal McEntire relies on cattle ranching to keep her rural independent afloat to care for her underserved patients in the Texas panhandle and keep the area from becoming a pharmacy desert. She and other pharmacists blame their financial challenges on pharmacy benefit managers, or PBMs.

RoxAnn Dominguez, CEO of the Texas Pharmacy Association, said state and federal lawmakers need to pass laws preventing PBMs from underpaying pharmacists and increasing PBM reimbursement rate transparency.
