Q***r AF Therapy has moved to East Austin and is taking new clients!

Beth Cortez-Neavel (they/them) is a Latinx, fat, kinky, poly, q***r, neurodivergent, and nonbinary therapist. They aim to provide a safer space for q***r, trans, and allied folx to be their authentic selves in a world that is trying to keep our communities quiet.

Beth specializes in using an anti-oppressive and relational lens to help you heal from past trauma and current events. Beth collaborates with you to help you heal, process, gain insight, build community, and keep relationships healthy.

Beth has immediate openings for teens, adults, couples, and families.

The news is stacked full of stories involving abuses of power, attachment ruptures and tremendous grief. What happens when the current obsession with gender, s*x, and s*xuality show up in the therapy room? How do you work with both the oppressor and oppressed parts within us and our clients? We will explore the complex interplay of these charged areas within the therapeutic relationship.

This space is explicitly pro-black, brown, and indigenous POC,
q***r & trans inclusive, & neurodivergent affirming. All bodies are welcome.

Part I: 3:00-4:30pm: Theory, Concepts, & Clinical Considerations
Part II: 5:00-6:30pm: Embodied Energy, Eroticism, & Ethics

Investment for evening: $320, includes a light dinner & 3 CEUs (1 ethics)
$180 for part 1 OR 2 only, 1.5 CEUs (.5 ethics)

Happy ! Welcome, new folx, and hello again to those that have been following me for a while. I thought I’d introduce myself again! I'm a Latinx, neurodivergent, fat, q***r, and nonbinary/trans clinician in Austin, Texas. I focus on q***r and trans clients, and the people who love them.

I am currently taking sliding scale and some pro-bono clients from the Kerrville flooding and still have some spots open! I have also opened some more private pay spots on my schedule! 

I recently upgraded to my LPC and I am also an LMFT Associate supervised by Michelle Silva Segura, LMFT-S, LPC-S, SEP. I am currently accepting individual adults, teens, relational/couples, and families in-person in Westlake and virtually throughout Texas. My ideal clients want to work on and heal through life events and issues relating to marginalized communities, gender identity, s*xual identity, kink, polyamory, infidelity, navigating the state of our country and the world, teen dating violence, intimate partner violence, childhood abuse, and s*xual trauma. 

I practice from an anti-oppressive, relational-cultural, and intersectional feminist lens, even in my more structured work. I am trained in EMDR, including the PRECI protocol, which is specifically used for relieving trauma symptoms from natural disasters.

My heart goes out to you after the horrible flooding disaster in the Texas hill country. I want to help you navigate your grief, process your trauma, and stay connected with your loved ones.

I am opening up my practice to provide sliding-scale and pro-bono EMDR therapy sessions to serve survivors of the recent tragedy. The specific type of EMDR therapy I practice can prevent long-term PTSD, increase day-to-day functioning, and provide rapid relief from acute distress.

I'm posting with a lot of sadness and a heavy heart for the survivors of the recent flooding in the Texas Hill Country. I would like to offer up my EMDR services at a sliding scale between $85-$120, per session for any clients ages 10+ that need help processing this disaster. I am also taking some pro-bono cases. Processing can take anywhere from 2-3 sessions to ongoing basis. I am trained in EMDR protocols created specifically for recent critical incidents and acute stress symptoms. Starting EMDR early can help keep survivors from developing PTSD. Reach out here if you know anyone who could benefit from this mental health relief work.

NEW BLOG POST UP NOW! Many relational counselors and therapists are not adequately prepared to work with kinky clients. They also may be actively pathologizing kink. Even if a counselor or therapist is open to working with B**M clients, the willingness to work with this population is not sufficient to ensure we are doing so in a safe and ethical way. In q***r relationships, the hidden aspects of domestic violence are tenfold that of violence in heteros*xual relationships. Q***r folx have more trouble finding help escaping from domestic violence or keeping themselves safe if they are continuously experiencing it.
