What is pudendal neuralgia?
This is a condition that causes pain, discomfort or numbness to the lower body, ge****ls or perineum.
What symptoms would I have?
Classic symptoms are:
๐น sharp or burning pain
๐น more sensitivity
๐น pins-and-needles feeling
๐น swollen feeling
You may commonly feel worst when you sit down
What treatments are available?
1๏ธโฃ Life Style Changes: prolonged sitting and bike riding can make an impact on pudendal nerve pain. Things to avoid include prolonged sitting, try to stand and take walking breaks, use a standing desk and doughnut for sitting. Preventing constipation, exercises like squatting, piriformis stretches, stair master
And ab crunches can help.
2๏ธโฃ Pelvic Floor Therapy- Finding a good pelvic floor therapist is important for any medical management steps to be taken
3๏ธโฃ Medications and Creams- these may be helpful especially in combination with pelvic floor therapy
4๏ธโฃPudendal Blocks- This is a type of nerve block that involves injecting an anesthetic near the pudendal nerve
5๏ธโฃBotox- pelvic floor botox it is to aid in relaxing the pelvic floor muscles that could be contributing to muscle spasms producing pain
6๏ธโฃAmniotic injection allografts and PRP injections are being performed currently at a few institutions. Amniotic injection allograft are believed to work by tiny micro-vesicles found in the amniotic fluid, release micro RNAโs (miRNA) that target and mediate pain following injury or disease.
