Layla celebrated her birthday in style—complete with a birthday sweater, party hat, and her own peanut-butter cake. Our residents enjoyed their own human-friendly cake and plenty of puppy love! Thank you to our resident Laurel for sharing Layla’s love and joy with our community all these years! ❤️🎂

This Thanksgiving, our Independence Village of Oxford team lived out our Give Back pillar in the best way. 💛

Chef Brian and our culinary team prepared and donated 150 Thanksgiving meals to support Free Meals guests at Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ.

Homemade food, warm smiles, and a whole lot of heart — thank you to our Oxford team for giving back to the community.✨

Congratulations to our November Employee of the Month Kyle!

Kyle's journey into the culinary world began in November of 2021 at our Zionsville West community. After a hiatus to Germany, where he furthered his cooking knowledge, we are lucky to bring him back into the fold here at Independence Village of Avon. His positive impact had been appreciated both by our team and our residents. He is an invaluable asset with his positive demeanor and eagerness to learn and improve his skills. Kyle is a bright example of the talent and dependability that all chefs look forward to having in their kitchens.

Thank you to our Director of Connection Points for leading another sussessful nutritional cooking class with our residents! Today she talked all about a healthy whole wheat naan bread and healthy swaps and substitutes to make in your baking such as whole wheat flour over white flours and olive oil over butter! The results? Absolutely delicious!

We’re excited to share our new Woodlands Sensory Wall in our Memory Care neighborhood! Residents can explore a variety of textures, sounds, and even scents — with soothing essential oils infused into the birch wood and pinecones.
This hands-on experience helps spark memories, encourage relaxation, and bring a little bit of the outdoors inside. 🍃

We celebrated national pajama day in style with some morning charades, a baking activity from our resident Tina with her famous Pumpkin Pie that won last month's pumpkin bake-off competition, and bonfire sing-alongs and smores roasting! What were your favorite sleepover activities?

This Veterans Day, we celebrated the heroes among us! Yesterday’s cocktail hour with live piano music set the stage for today’s heartfelt ceremony, where we presented certificates and service pins to our veteran residents. We also proudly unveiled our updated Honor Wall, showcasing the stories and photos of those who bravely served. We are forever grateful for your service and sacrifice. 🇺🇸

The Chopped Champions Luncheon was a hit! 🏆🍴

Our amazing Chef Dan brought his A-game once again! Donors from our Chopped Competition for a Cause enjoyed a special lunch prepared by the winning chef himself.

Chef Dan recreated his award-winning entrée — a creative twist on a classic Steak and Eggs breakfast — featuring:
🥩 Filet with deconstructed hollandaise
🥓 Maple-glazed pork belly
🥔 Mixed potato hash
🌿 Citrus asparagus

The meal began with a rich, comforting French Onion Soup and finished with a decadent Croissant Bread Pudding drizzled in Bourbon Sauce.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported this delicious event — and to Chef Dan for an unforgettable dining experience! 👨‍🍳✨

Our residents loved handing out candy, sharing smiles, and making memories with visiting trick-or-treaters! Between spooky snacks, themed drinks, a haunted hallway, sensory creepy-crawly station, and plenty of Halloween fun, it was a night full of laughter and community spirit. 🎃👵🧛‍♀️

💜💙 From those currently living with Alzheimer’s to those we carry in our hearts — this journey is one we walk together.

This year, Independence Village of Avon proudly participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Through the generosity and support of our community, we raised over $550 to help fund research, awareness, and care.

Our Executive Chef Dan and Director of Connection Points Erica walked in honor of everyone touched by this disease — past and present.

Each flower we display outside our community carries meaning:
💙 Blue for those living with Alzheimer’s
💜 Purple for those we've lost

These flowers stand as a symbol of our commitment —from the first step to the very last.
