The Ancient Roots of Ostara 🌿🥚🐰

Before the Easter Bunny, there was the Goddess of the Dawn.

Long before modern traditions, the Spring Equinox was celebrated as Ostara (or Eostre). This Friday, March 20th, we honor the ancient Germanic Goddess of the Dawn and the returning light. While many know this time of year as Easter, the rabbits, the eggs, and the symbols of new life—actually belong to the Pagan path of Ostara.

The Legend of the Goddess & The Hare:
In ancient lore, the Rabbit was the sacred spirit animal of Ostara. The story goes that the Goddess once found a bird with frozen wings in the snow. To save its life, she transformed it into a long-eared Hare. Because it had once been a bird, this magical Hare kept the ability to lay eggs!
It is said that Ostara would fly over the Earth as the sun rose, dropping what we now call eggs—but they were actually divine seeds. As they hit the fertile soil, they would instantly sprout into the first flowers of spring, waking the Earth from its winter slumber. This is why we still use eggs today to represent fertility, potential, and the "cracking open" of new life.

Ostara is the point of perfect balance. Day and night are equal, but the light is winning. It is time to move from the dreaming phase of the New Moon into the doing phase of Spring.

A Simple Ritual for Growth:
