Let’s talk about body shaming. Body shaming happens to not only big people but also to skinny people. I know because I have experienced it myself. Growing up I was always “skinny” and even into my adulthood. As a teenager I developed an eating disorder, because people always commented on how skinny I was so I thought that must be a good thing and I wanted to stay that way. It took a toll on my body and mind. 95% of those suffering from am eating disorder are between the ages of 12 and 25. Now days with all of the social media it is no wonder that that number is so high. Remember your words have power. No matter a persons size telling them “you should eat a hamburger, you are too skinny” or “do you think you should be eating that, skipping one meal won’t hurt” are all forms of body shaming. Let’s put a stop to body shaming.

Did you know there are more than 300 know symptoms of celiac disease, a serious genetic autoimmune disease. Celiac symptoms vary among different people. Due to the wide variety of symptoms that a person may have it can be difficult to diagnose. For some people it may look like diarrhea and abdominal pain, while in others it could be anxiety or depression. Some people develop symptoms early in life, while others may not show symptoms until well into adulthood and some people may never have symptoms at all. With so many different symptoms and not everyone having the same symptoms this has resulted in about 80% of people with celiac disease either going undiagnosed or misdiagnosed with some other condition. If you think you may have celiac disease please see your doctor to get tested.

Holiday gatherings means time spent with family and friends. This time is for celebration and not a time to feel guilty about the foods we are eating.

Here is my simple healthy holiday eating guide. Remember that the food we eat impacts our overall health. So to balance it out try to fill up your plate with veggies then add a little of everything else. This doesn't mean you have to skip your favorite dishes just maybe eat a smaller portion.

If you are going to eat your favorite pie or cake just cut smaller portions.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and get your body moving.
