One more week until Give Big Kern ends! Every little bit helps us reach our mission of providing a safe and steady blood supply to Kern County!

Did you know that the majority of our donations come from our mobile blood drives? Our buses make the decision to save a life as easy as stepping out your front door. They play a pivotal role in our ability to bring in collections and we need to make sure they are always ready to go!

75 years of saving lives. And we’re just getting started.

Here's a little sneak peak at today, where we celebrated a legacy built by this community and took a meaningful step forward toward a healthier future as an official Blue Zones Project approved organization.

From proclamations to powerful stories, and a ribbon cutting that marked both milestones, this was more than a celebration. It was a reminder of what’s possible when people come together with purpose.

Thank you to everyone who attended, to community leaders and partners who spoke, to every voice that helped make today so impactful, and to our partners at the Blue Zone Project Bakersfield for helping us build a healthier future.

And to our Houchin team… you brought this entire event to life. Every detail, every moment, every behind-the-scenes effort did not go unnoticed.

Renegades showed up and showed OUT ❤️

From March 30 – April 10, the Renegade Revival Blood Drive brought together Bakersfield College students, alumni, and our incredible community for one powerful mission: saving lives.

Alumni Night on April 9th was something special. Familiar faces, new memories, and a whole lot of heart inside the Bolthouse Donor Center 🩸

Because of YOU, we’re making real progress toward our goal of 200 units this academic year… and every donation tells a story that goes far beyond campus.

A huge thank you to Vecchio’s Pizzeria & Gelateria for keeping everyone fueled, My Happy Baker for the sweet treats, and every single donor who rolled up their sleeve.

And just like that, April 10 marked the final day to enter the Houchin Scholar Society Scholarship. Every single day, our donors help us save lives in our community, a feat we could not do without them. And this is one way we are able to give back. We're building brighter futures together.

This is what community looks like. This is what impact feels like.

People Live When People Give

Only volunteer donors can provide blood, platelets and plasma for transfusion to patients in need. Our caring staff will take good care of you, and donation takes about an hour the first time. We are always looking for new donors, and love to see returning donors as well. People live when people give at Houchin Community Blood Bank!
