SPRAVATO AND ROOT ROT.

Last week I asked a patient who has received for their treatment-resistant depression to describe their experience so others may understand why it is different than traditional antidepressants.

As a lover of plants, they related it to a plant with root rot. When a plant isn't thriving - or worse yet dying despite providing all the things you know should work such as adequate water, sunlight, fertilizer, etc., it could have root rot and will slowly die despite all of your best efforts. It's only once you remove the plant from its pot to discover the root rot which was previously not visible that you can bring the plant back to life. They explained that Spravato allows them to get to the parts that need healing in order to achieve remission of their depression - similar to getting to the "root rot" of their plants.

Awe doesn’t have to come from grand experiences. It can be found in the simplest things—watching a child’s wonder, feeling the rhythm of the ocean, or even just noticing how a single raindrop clings to a leaf. These moments may not "cure" depression, but they can offer a glimpse beyond it—a reminder that beauty still exists, even in the hardest times.

I recently heard a funny joke:
"How can you tell if someone does CrossFit?" .. Don't worry, they will tell you!

How can you tell if someone is suffering from depression? You most likely won't know. And they probably won't be as excited as a CrossFitter to share. Yes, there are subtle signs if you pay attention but there are MILLIONS of people living with depression who smile daily and seem to have it all together - but inside, they are dying.

Even with traditional treatment, they may still be suffering. This is why I am so excited to be a certified Spravato treatment center.
