The pitch: “The maternal mortality rate in the United States is the highest of all developed countries, and it is rising. Maternal mortality refers to the percentage of deaths in pregnancy, labor, and early postpartum, and the rate is substantially higher for Black women.

I am Angel, a Lamaze certified childbirth educator, and cofounder of Enriched Birth. In our childbirth classes, we do not push any particular type of birth. Whether having a medicated or non-medicated, vaginal or cesarean, hospital or home birth, research points to more positive outcomes when the expecting parents are informed of their choices and supported in their decisions. For this reason, our classes are private and customized to address each client’s questions and birth intentions.

When we launched in Northern Virginia, we joined the local birth work community and was voted the Washington Parents Pick for prenatal classes. Along with our paying clients, we were fortunate enough to provide free classes to those financially impacted by the pandemic and expectant teen parents.

Now, Baltimore is my home, and my goal is to make Enriched Birth a known resource in this community. While we will always provide virtual options to support parents located anywhere, I am asking for $500 to use for co-working space fees for in-person classes in the Baltimore area and printed business cards and flyers for local networking events.”

Did you know childbirth education classes may be eligible for reimbursement through your flexible spending account (FSA), health savings account (HSA), or health reimbursement arrangement (HRA)?

Coverage varies depending on your provider, plan, and state. Call the number on the back of your insurance card, ask to speak to provider, and ask if your plan covers childbirth education.

This adorable little girl is turning one today!

Congratulations to this amazing woman on one year of parenting two little ones and navigating postpartum for a third time. It has been such an honor to be a part of her journey since 2021 when she took our childbirth course in preparation for her second birth. ❤️

Today also marks one year that Linsay has been serving families as a labor support person. One year of learning, growing, and bearing witness to the incredible strength of each of the women and their families I’ve been honored to support.

Thank you to each of you for allowing me to be a part of such powerful, life-altering moments in your lives. ❤️

We’re 4!! Enriched Birth (originally Brave Birth Collective, for those of you who have been with us that long 😉), was born in June 2020.

It was a scary, crazy time, but nothing felt more right. We became Lamaze certified childbirth educators, opened a business bank account, launched a website, and taught our first class that month.

What a long way we have come!!

It has been our absolute privilege to support all of the families we’ve had the pleasure of working with these past four years. Thank you all. ❤️

Why work with us? Well, for one thing, we care- a lot- about you. We’re honest and real, non judgmental, and open about birth. We love what we do. We also are serious about continuous education, enriching ourselves and our classes constantly.

Throwback to being pregnant in the summer 🥵. Fun times!

If this is going to be you…now is a great time to register for our in-person weekend childbirth prep course (June 29-30th at .dc)! We will commiserate about the heat, but also learn, explore, and get prepared as you connect with your birth partner, learn what to expect and how to advocate for yourself, and dive deep into what truly matters to you and how to own your birth.

Your birth story is not defined by or limited to the events that took place. Your birth story encompasses so much more than what was seen by those who were present or what you have been told.

Your birth story happened in the past, but it is living in you, changing constantly as you navigate the days, weeks, and months after.

Your birth story belongs to you. It is yours to tell, yours to hold, yours to nurture.

We are thrilled to share that Linsay recently completed a 6-month apprenticeship with , author of Transformed by Birth. Britta’s book is one of our absolute favorites and has inspired our work in so many ways.

The apprenticeship provided training on how to work with families in a solution-focused way, centering parents as the experts in their own lives, using metaphor and story teach, guide, and inspire, as well as so many really creative ways to approach childbirth education.

Perhaps most importantly it provided an opportunity to connect with dedicated prenatal professionals all over the world and a safe, judgment free space to have honest conversations about gender, cultural appropriation, and racial disparities in birth work.

Thank you for the work you do and for offering this apprenticeship to our community, 🤗
