“It’s not a character flaw. It’s a brain disorder.” — Bebe Moore Campbell 🕊️✨

As we close out , we are honoring the woman who made it her mission to change the conversation around mental health in our community: Bebe Moore Campbell.

Through her novels and her advocacy, Bebe fought to remove the "hush-hush" around mental wellness. She understood that silence doesn't protect our children—it hinders their healing.

At Playful Minds Therapy, we carry her legacy by creating a safe, loud, and proud space for African-Centered healing. We believe that seeking support is an act of strength, not a sign of weakness.
Thank you, Bebe, for giving us the words to speak our truth. 🧡✊🏾

We must look for the strength in every child, even—and especially—under the weight of stress." — Dr. Margaret Morgan Lawrence 🕊️✨

This , we are honoring Dr. Margaret Morgan Lawrence. As a pioneer in child psychiatry, she refused to look at Black children through a "deficit lens." Instead, she focused on their Ego Strength—the innate resilience and spirit that allows a child to thrive despite their surroundings.

At Playful Minds Therapy, we follow Dr. Lawrence’s lead. Our African-Centered Play Therapy is designed to identify and nurture that inner strength, helping our children see themselves as the heroes of their own stories.

We don’t just see the struggle; we see the strength. 🧡

Assessment requires understanding the whole child within their cultural context." — Dr. Ruth Winifred Howard 🕊️

Today we honor Dr. Ruth Winifred Howard, the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in Psychology. In an era of "one-size-fits-all" science, Dr. Howard was a revolutionary. She argued that you cannot support a child without understanding their family, their community, and their culture.

At Playful Minds Therapy, we carry her torch. Our African-Centered Play Therapy doesn't look at a child in isolation; we look at the beautiful, complex "whole" of who they are.

Thank you, Dr. Howard, for teaching us that understanding a child's world is the first step to healing it. 💛✨

"The first step in the destruction of any people is to take away their self-confidence." — Dr. Frances Cress Welsing (1935–2016) 🕊️

Today for , we are honoring the legacy of Dr. Frances Cress Welsing. As a psychiatrist and author of The Isis Papers, Dr. Welsing dedicated her life to analyzing the systemic forces that impact the Black psyche.

She understood that for a child to grow into a healthy, functional adult, they must first have a strong, unwavering sense of self-respect and cultural identity.

At Playful Minds Therapy, we don't just "play"—we provide a sanctuary where Black children can build that self-confidence. By using an African-Centered approach, we counteract the external pressures Dr. Welsing identified, ensuring our children grow up feeling whole, capable, and proud.

Healing isn't just clinical; it’s a commitment to the functional health of our future. ✊🏾✨
