Local Lacinato kale massaged with an olive oil, lemon, and garlic-based dressing just does something for me in the winter 🤤 Lacinato kale is in season in the winter and I’m here for it! Delish.

For MOST humans (there are exceptions such as having a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and needing to count carbohydrates to understand how much insulin to take) counting numbers associated with food is not necessary for good nutrition and health. And can cause harm such as fueling food worry and obsession.

14/01/2026

📢Unpopular opinion: the dietary guidelines protein recommendations don’t really matter, at least not for me as an outpatient dietitian helping clients live a healthier lifestyle through health behavior changes.

If we were meant to count numbers associated with food it would be raised or grown with numbers on it. Counting numbers in food, including grams of protein, is just not necessary for good health and good nutrition for MOST people.

The video no one asked for: crystals initial thoughts on the release of the dietary guidelines for Americans. You’re welcome 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️🫠 I can’t back anything, regardless of how it impacts human health, if it isn’t feasible for environmental health. Period.

1. Don’t let diet culture make you believe veggies don’t count if they’re dipped in dip. That’s BS.

2. In 2026 I’m committed to using social less and not using filters on social when I do post, esp. if I’m posting videos or pictures that include me or others, because we all need more real looking humans on social media. I’m so tired of scrolling and seeing images that don’t look like real imperfect humans. Consider joining me 💕

this is why I do what I do every day🥹🩷 which makes the decision I have come to even more difficult…

*Practice update*: I am currently not taking new clients, and I am taking a break from private practice and social media for a while. I am taking some time to focus on my own health and wellbeing (it turns out self care is HARD when you’re working two jobs consistently🤣) and I thank all of my amazing clients and colleagues for your support of my practice, Renourishing Roots, over the years. I’m so grateful to do what I love each and every day and I couldn’t do it without my amazing colleagues and clients!!

If you’d like to sign up for my waitlist to be the first to know when I’m taking clients again please be sure to visit my website, link in bio. ✨

Ok seriously if you are in the tri-state area and haven’t tried .co plant-based patties you are truly missing out 🤩 they’re made with whole food ingredients (and it’s sooooo hard to find a good plant based burger on the market without tons of unnecessary ingredients) and are DELICIOUS. I highly recommend! They’ve been a game changer for me during the work week when I need a quick and convenient source of protein.

Summer salads are literally my favorite 🤤

Arugula w/ pistachios, peaches, feta, red onion, grilled chicken, carrots, celery, oil, vinegar, and sauerkraut 🤩 most ingredients from the farmers market which makes it even more delicious and nutrient dense.

P.S.- investing in a REALLY good olive oil and vinegar can totally be a game changer for a salad. So simple yet so delicious. I love 🩷

🥬 summer salads had me a blast 🫜

Love making simple + satisfying weeknight salads for dinner using local veggies and fruits during the summer months. I’ve been putting some peaches in my salad and it’s been a satisfaction game changer. I also add some protein (tonight was grilled lemon herb chicken and other nights I might do chickpeas, tofu, salmon, or a chicken or veggie patty) and fat (local feta and pistachios and both of these also provide some extra protein!) to make it more of a balanced and satisfying meal.

Nourishment tip: add some fermented veggies to your salads (a little goes a long way; try a tablespoon or two) for some beneficial probiotics to support your gut health. I added some beet + cabbage sauerkraut to this salad and it was 🤤

If you haven’t already this season checkout your local farmers market and enjoy some farm fresh, seasonal produce! You can’t beat the flavor + nutrition 🤩
