🎉 What an incredible APAC Open Meeting today! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who joined us in person and virtually for the Johns Hopkins Advanced Practice Advisory Council (APAC) Open Meeting! It was an energizing afternoon connecting with APP colleagues across the institution and celebrating the continued growth of our APP community. 💙

Highlights from today:

✨ Katy Hines and Jean Rodgers shared updates on the growing Transition to Practice Program supporting our newest APPs
👋 We welcomed new APPs Gabe and Jelisa and celebrated many other new APPs joining us virtually
🎤 We heard from Enbar Cohen, our new Vice President of HR
🤝 A fun icebreaker helped connect APPs across specialties
✨ Council updates on initiatives supporting APPs across Johns Hopkins
📈 And we celebrated an exciting milestone — 1,000+ followers on our LinkedIn page!

We also began planning for our upcoming APP Spring Summit, and we hope to see many of you there!

✨ Leadership Academy Fellow Spotlight: Suzette Heptinstall, CRNP ✨

Suzette Heptinstall, CRNP, is a fellow in the Johns Hopkins Advanced Practice Leadership Academy and has dedicated nearly 30 years to nursing, including 18 years as a Nurse Practitioner with Halsted Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her passion lies in the trauma realm, where she continues to make a meaningful impact on patient care and quality improvement.

Suzette also serves on multiple Department of Surgery and Trauma committees and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland (NPAM), where she has represented Baltimore City as District Director for the past 10 years.

Great news! The FY27 Opportunity Award application deadline has been extended to March 17, 2026 at 6:00 PM.

If you’ve been thinking about submitting an idea — there’s still time!

This award provides $10,000 in seed funding to support an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) or team of APPs on the East Baltimore campus in pursuing an innovative professional opportunity that advances mentorship, creativity, and impact at Johns Hopkins.

💡 Key Details:
• Focus on mentorship, innovation, creativity, or addressing unmet needs
• Eligible APPs must have ≥2 years of practice on the East Baltimore campus and identify a mentor
• Applications are reviewed by APAC and past APAC Chairs
• Recipient announced in April

📅 New Deadline: March 17, 2026 at 6:00 PM

Strong applications clearly describe the idea, include a realistic budget, outline how the project will strengthen advanced practice, and demonstrate commitment to the Johns Hopkins APP community.

✨ APP Fellow Highlight | Johns Hopkins Advanced Practice Leadership Academy ✨

Please join us in recognizing Julia David, CRNP, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Pediatric Oncology and fellow of the Johns Hopkins Advanced Practice Leadership Academy. 💙

Julia has been dedicated to hematology/oncology care since 2013 and earned both her BSN and MSN from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. She brings deep clinical expertise and a compassionate, patient-centered approach to the children and families she serves every day.

Before stepping into her current role in Pediatric Oncology, Julia was a key leader in our Pediatric Anticoagulation Service, specializing in the management of thrombosis in pediatric cancer patients — work that requires exceptional clinical skill and collaboration.

In addition to her clinical impact, Julia serves as Co-Chair of the Advanced Practice Advisory Council, helping to advance initiatives that strengthen and elevate advanced practice across Johns Hopkins. This past summer, she also served as Medical Director of Camp Sunrise, our sleepover camp for pediatric cancer patients and survivors — extending her care and leadership beyond the hospital setting. ☀️

Julia’s dedication, leadership, and advocacy reflect the very best of advanced practice. We are proud to celebrate her impact and grateful for all she does for our patients and community. 👏💙

Please join us in congratulating Heather McDade, M.S.N., AG-ACNP, Liver Transplant Nurse Practitioner at The Johns Hopkins Hospital Comprehensive Transplant Center, on her outstanding national presentation and recognition! 👏💙

On January 22, 2025, Heather presented her poster, “Rethink the I.D. Consult; Liver Transplant Nurse Practitioners Cure Hepatitis C in Post-Transplant Clinic,” at the American Society of Transplant Surgeons Annual Meeting.

Her work showcases the powerful impact of Liver Transplant NPs in independently managing and curing Hepatitis C in the post-transplant clinic setting — rethinking traditional care models and demonstrating the strength of advanced practice–led innovation.

🏅 We are especially proud to share that Heather received Poster of Distinction recognition — a testament to the quality, rigor, and clinical significance of her work.
